Hi Fracessco 10, do you know your nuvi HWID ?
Do you have a backup?
For whatever reason it is, I didn't succeed in unbricking my nuvi 1690.
I got the gcd file through the "view page source" method posted by Neil ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]), thanks for that
GCD: nuvi16xxEU_regionfileonly__390.gcd
After importing the gcd file into GarminCure3, "cure" was selected and then "Make firmare".
When everything seemed to be fine, I hit the "Updater.exe" button and a pop-up window appeared.
after selecting the "usb" option (grey out), I made my device into pre-boot mode and the unit id appeared in the box.
without delay I hit the OK button... everything seemed to go well until i got this message:
1# window: nuvi 1690 software version 2,60 (I couldn't get anywhere the 2,60 version)
2# window:
The GARMIN device is unable to program the requested memory region.
This could be due to an incompatibility between this application and the GARMIN device.
Is this error continues to occur, please contact GARMIN Technical Support.
I contacted Garmin after several attempts and in the reply from the Garmin staff:
The unit is no longer in their list of repair.
Please trade in your device for an upgrade
Any advice is much appreciated.
(P/S: I also did the white screen dot troubleshooting and hard reset, the garmin logo was all the time there, no matter what I did)
Hi Fracessco 10, do you know your nuvi HWID ?
Do you have a backup?
You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
Hi catymag, thanks for the reply.
If according to the region I got this GPS device, then it should be 1132. (EU unit)
But I have no idea why it didn't work.
After got into the pre-boot mode, I got my device id: [removed].
And after clicked on the OK, the line appeared .... nuvi software version 2,60 (the one I downloaded is 3,90).
And one more thing I think I should have mentioned, the word "software missing" was on the touchscreen.

too bad, I do not have a back up.
But I borrowed a unit from a friend of mine, the same model. A working unit.
Will that help?
Ok I uploaded firmware 3.00 if you want to try (HWID1132)
It should be better to check HWID with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] if you are not 100% sure. This "software missing" make me think
Try another cable and run Updater.exe as admin if you are using Win 7

Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
No luck
still the same error message.
Do you think you have the 2,60 version of software?
Tried the g7towin, but i got AsyncInit Error (several times), wondering what I have done wrong.
Latest update on the g7towin, usb error: open_garmin_usb: failed getting usb handle.
then id: "a black sign with an "s" or "5" in it"
unit id: "a black sign with an "s" or "5" in it"; usb comm via bulk pipe
OK, after a several tried and finally got the HWID from the thread you sent
I confirmed the HWID is 1132
The message I got from g7towin:
nuvi 1690 Software Version 2,60 ID: 1132
Unit ID: [removed] USB Comm via Bulk Pipe
I guess I need the version 2,60 to save my device.

Anyway, thanks for the help.
One final question/request, do you probably have the nuvi16xxEU_regionfileonly__260.gcd file?
I might give it a last try.
