    Question 60CSx maps and stuff

    Hello!

I am a proud new owner of a used 60CSx that I bought of eBay. I got it from Germany with Italian and Greek maps which are useless to me. I have read quite a lot on this forum, but there is so much information that I get more confused with every new thing I read. I don't want to become a GPS expert, all I need is a few basic things and here is where you experts in this stuff come in.

I use the GPS on my motorcycle for on and off road riding and therefore I need 2 sets of maps, street with navigation, addresses, poi,... and a topo with bike tracks, forest trails,.... Here are the things that I don't know/understand:

    1. Can I have 2 maps on one 4gb micro sd card and switch between them as needed or is it better to have 2 2gb micro sd cards and switch them before the ride?

    2. I have downloaded City Navigator Europe NT 2013.41 and TransAlpin 2012 Pro from this forum to use on my device, what is the easiest way to install them? I have the original map-source installed on my PC that came with the GPS.

    3. I didn't get a USB cable with my GPS do I need to buy a genuine Garmin cable or can I use any mini USB cabel

I think this will do for now.

    Thanks!

I understand that it may seem confusing to understand all the questions on what can be done and not be done with different Garmin gps models!
Some basic info valid for your 60CSx which is an excellent device, allthough with a little too small screen for MC use...
The 60 CSx can only have one file with map(s) but it is possible to have many maps in this file.
The file must be named gmapsupp.img and be in the Garmin folder of the sd-card.
The size of the file can be max 2GB (or is it possible with 4GB with latest firmware? I have a faint feeling I have read it somewhere, someone can possibly clear this?)
In your case I would install the maps you are intersted in Mapsource (or Basecamp) as a first step. You will anyhow need the maps in your PC to be able to plan your trips and transfer them to the gps.
After having installed the maps you can select the parts of the first map, then switch map in Mapsource and continue selecting the the parts of the next map.
When done with this you can transfer the map either direct to the gps or with the patched version of Mapsource to your PC:s harddrive, a file named gampsupp.img will be the result of this. If you transfer direct to the gps the old file gmapsupp.img will be overwritten!
If transferred to PC you can then copy the file to the sd-card but using the usb will take loong time if the map file is big since usb1 is slow.
In the gps you can now select the map of interest, you should be able to select all the maps that you transferred but normally select only one mat at the time. The cpu of the 60CSx is not the fastest in the world but the batteries lasts long!

Of course it is possible to have several sd-cards with maps and switch the cards in teh field but normally you would be able to get all the maps in one gmapsupp.img
One solution can also be to temporarily rename the gmapsupp-files to something else with the help of a PC or a smartphone.

And no, you do not have to use a special usb cable, the normal one will do.
If you want access to the files in the card from a PC the gps must be set in usb-mode but when transferring routes or maps from Mapsource to the gps this is not the case.

Confusing? You will get used to it, all thr tools and info (as well as maps..) are to be found in the forum!

    1. Only one map (gmapsupp.img) is available on SD for your device. Max size is 4 GB.
    2. Read forum threads for full info.
    3. No special cable is needed. Use any available mini-USB cable.
Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?

Thanks for all the help! I have managed to install adria topo 2.31 on my GPS and computer and it works perfectly. But when installing CN EU and unlocking it with key generator and adding that code in to unlock the region (same thing I did with topo) it still doesn't unlock CN EU. In the maps page it says unlocked for topo and unconfirmed for CN EU and on the right lower side of the map it says details locked. Any help would be much appreciated as I have installed it twice and cant find a solution.

    Thanks!

The keygen method does not work for maps with map id over 2200, use other methods for unlocking. Try the unlock mapset.exe, can be found here:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Use the sticky index files to find info in the forum.
To get the best out of your gps for MC use re-typing the maps is very useful in order to get the best readabilty, especially for topo maps but also CNEU will be much easier to read if you change it to more black/white appearance for higher contrast. Use TYPviewer for this job.
    Can be found here:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
When working with TYPviewer it is important that you use the correct map id in the typ file.

O.T. My Kawasaki Versys 650 is equipped with two gps:es, GPSMAP276C with CNEU typed black/white for navigation and route finding and Nuvi200 with Topo maps for terrain details!

The Unlocked map with JM not works (FID >2200)
For folder GMAP also try with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Or [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Did you place the file "unlock mapset.exe" in the C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\City Navigator Europe NT 2013.41.gmap" folder? (if Win7)
And then run it from there (as admin by right click).

You can put some more maps on a microsd card but keep in mind that the *.img file can't be larger then 2GB on the 60Csx. In my 60Csx I have City Navigator and TOPO maps. But switching between these two is really a pain in the .... (you know). So I just bought some microsdhc cards with 4gb capacity and just keep the cards in a special little card holder in my pocket.
