    Default Question On Corrupt Ram Memory on Nuvi 670

    I just noticed I lost about 839 MB on my Nuvi 670. If I check the Nuvi drives properties it indicates the following:
    Used Space= 2.2 GB (All Files show 1.41 GB used)
    Free Space= 1.60 GB
    Capacity = 3.83 GB

    If I highlight all the files they total 1.41 GB, that’s a huge difference than the 2.2 GB indicated as used space.
    My files were all backed up so I went ahead and deleted all the files, then ran a diagnostics check, and reset everything.
    Checked properties again with no files at all on it and shows used space as 839 MB.
    Windows is set up to show hidden files.

    I also have a Nuvi 680 and ran a property check on that unit.
    Used Space= 1.76 GB (All Files show 1.75 GB used)
    Free Space= 114 MB
    Capacity = 1.87 GB
    THIS IS PROPER since it’s only using .1GB for firmware and other system proprietary files.

    I called Garmin support and spent about ½ hour with them and they were no help.
    The guy kept putting me on hold and asking somebody else’s advice.
    His final answer was that the 839 used MB was being used by system files that could not be accessed.
    I told him that’s ridiculous since my Nuvi 680 only used .1 GB for system files. Conversation ended there.

    I’m at my wits end with this.
    I would never format a GPS since to the best of my knowledge GPS’s use Ram memory and not a hard drive.
    I also am reluctant to run chkdsk on a GPS using Windows XP.

    Any advice would sincerely be appreciated, if chkdsk is an option, please give instructions on how to run it on the Nuvi 770.

    I got this once in my 7 , Windows freezed copying a file in my 3790 sd and I had to force restart, at restart I got it and I run it without any problem
    2011 01 23 194352 chkdsk G
    You can try to run chkdsk from command
    chkdsk /f where /f means fix errors, without it, it only shows errors.
    You can begin without f to see if you have problems.

    You have to navigate to get to the good.

    Thank you, you're the best, I appreciate your help.
    Will follow your instructions and run chkdsk first without the /r switch, then if need be I'll run again with the switch.

    Forgot to mention in the original post the Nuvi 670 works properly in all functions and passes all the diagnostics checks.
    I'm just pissed to loose 829 MB of valuable memory.
    I'll post what the results were, and if it corrected the problem.

    Update:
    I had some problems using chkdsk /F but I got it worked out.
    There were 4 files on there named filecheck that amounted to the 829 MB, once back on the Nuvi I deleted them and recovered all my lost space.
    Thanks for advising chkdsk /f was safe to use on the Nuvi device.
