Phew, AFAIK even low cost server hosts have their machines set as redundant, especially for client's main data. Online UPS, redundant PSU on the server itself, redundant drives in RAID5 or better, regular remote storage (weekly or so) full backups and so on. Amazing such a disaster can happen nowadays. How can one trust private cloud services for private or business data? Lessons learned

Is the entire DB stored on the 120GB SSD drive? What happen to it after they FUBAR* it? Make sure you get a hold of it because you might be able to restored it.

    * I failed to understand how replacing the power supply would messes up the SSD drive.

A number of years ago we had quite an elaborate - tho nothing like this - forum on a completely different subject. It was on free Ezboard, and then poof it all vanished. It's a wakeup call for just how tenuous all the info and everything else online really is. One day u might turn on your computer, or try to, and nothing's there any more, no Wikipedia no email no bank statement no nothing.

I think It best that people mourn this event, then begin the restoration ASAP.

I also find it hard to believe as I work with PC's.
A 120GB SSD hard drive should be past its use-by date IMHO.

Best time to start the rebuild is now while it's fresh.
Some forums go down for months and never recover.

I'm hoping all of my favourite members return.
Unfortunately one joined eleven months ago and is now has no history at all

Server use server power suply, it is not china kungfu model 8$ cost... just died like that?? And SSD which must be industrially, not everyday commercial..also died like that?? I saw the sata power wires burning during the connecting when the factory badly connected, gues what - SSD stays alive.

Something stinks there a lot...and it is not power suply.

    Btw, Like button don't work.

I think that the power supply can die fast - in the industry are often multiple power supplies for a server used for that reason. All electrical things can fail in a moment so redundancy is important.
Same for SSD. Try to power one with more than 5V - you will burn it and its over. If you are happy, you only burned the power control but not the flash chips but thats nothing everybody can repair...

As the OLD saying goes, $hit happens but not all is lost we are still here, and we will carry on as usual, I have had PSU's fail and it took out the MOBO and the C: drive but left all the others, it happens I lost alot of Data in that week between backups, also had an SSD lockup due to some software and had to recover data as an external and lost my Documents of which had 12 months worth of photos. So have started again.
So if a Backup company changes software without testing " will now not have this Forums business again I feel"

Is there away that Admin of this forum can do their own backup of the forum?????. With Hi Speed internet these days it maybe possible. Not sure of cause how long that would take, and what Plan one is on.

Well done staff for getting us back here.
