    Default Intersection Search Custom Map

    When I try to search "Where To" for an intersection, my Garmin Nuvi asks which State/Province. When I type in the State of Sonora - it is not found.

    1) Where do I specify the State when authoring the map?
    2) I see Postal code as an attribute of searchable items. However, the postal codes in Mexico are the same format as in the USA. For example 85506 is the postal code of my city in Sonora. It is also the postal code in Tucson Arizona.
    3) Is there anything I have to do as a map author to enable searching for intersections?

    Or, since everything in my map is in the same State - how do I get Nuvi to not ask the "Which State or Province" question?

    I created a routeable map of the city in Mexico where I live in winter. I created the map in GPSMapEdit and converted to Garmin using cGpsMapper. Searching to POIs in the map itself works. Searching for cities works. I have NOT assigned postal codes to the cities or roads in my map.

    This map is the only map "active" (other than the global base map). I am using a Nuvi 200 with software level current.

    Forget about using gpsmapedit and cgpsmapper. It is too complex, uncomfortable and confusing using those two programs for drawing a map. In the days when hacking and decompiling garmin maps develop those two programs were at their peak. But nowadays things has changed:

    Read the manual first. Everything is explained there. I have done it a long time ago but you should specify country, state, city etc. it in the shape file. Addressing I think it was in a separate file.

    I did figure this problem out. GPSMapeEdit and cGPSMapper can implement Intersection Search. But ddabcd277 is correct, it is tedious.

    For future intrepid map authors what I neglected was defining which country, region, and city for each object. In the Polish Notation add definitions like this:
    [Countries]
    Country1=United States
    [END-Countries]

    [Regions]
    Region1=Washington
    CountryIdx1=1
    [END-Regions]

    [Cities]
    City1=Seattle
    RegionIdx1=1
    City2=Bellevue
    RegionIdx2=1
    City3=Everett
    RegionIdx3=1
    [END-Cities]

    And then assign each road to one of the defined cities using:
    CityIdx=2
    In the Polish Notation. The GPSMapEdit GUI can assign objects (like roads) to cities - IF they have been predefined. But, the sheer volume of changes makes this tedious. A good Text Editor helps. And then GPSMapEdit can be used for the exceptions.

    Once I assigned a CityIdx to each road - then Intersection Search work both in MapSource and in my Garmin Nuvi.

    This is easy with GPSmapedit too. You can assign Postal Adress Information for searching the intersection of POI in GPSr

    First you have to enter information about country, Province and City in gpsmapedit using toolbar Tools->Edit Postal Address Items.. When popup window opens , enter the country,province and city information. Then go to toolbar Edit->Select->By type..

    Popup window opens and Select poly-line category which you want assign City Index. Click OK and all poly-line of selected category are selected in main Window. Now right click on selected poly line and in pop up menu click on Modify ->Postal Address-> City.
    You are done. All selected objects either poly-line are POI have city index for searching in Garmin units.
