The field where you should change the color is what follows (suggestion of color: #47FFFF). You can check the suggested color for routes in the images of a alternative theme on the topic indicated below.
If the issue is only modifying the route, choose one of the available themes and change only the indicated fields, which appear in 6 different locations in kmtf file.

    Identification list:

In General where a "STYLE field" line has "scale =" and border =" these refer to polylines, however there is one section that refers to both types which is "STYLE field = "MAP_WATER_CLR" which covers both types of polys.

Some of the fields only cover one polygon or polyline, others cover a few. In these cases change the colour and all the subject areas/line colours will change.

On the "Scale" and "Border" entries these refer to the thickness of the line so you can have a and entry scale = "0.60" border = "0.40". "Scale" would be the main colour width called the primary and "Border" the edge or secondary colour. In the above the line would be 1.00 unit in width and the inside colour would be 60 percent of the width in the middle.
Some sections have Primary and Secondary colours, these will either be the color of a border or a second colour in a line.

There are several sections to each .kmtf file, The names speak for themselves. Each of these "Presentation" sections can be altered and will remain separate from each other. So in effect you could have 6 different sets of colours, well 12 if you take into account day and night.

PRESENTATION ID = "Guidance" display navigation mode
PRESENTATION ID = "Browse" exploration mode display card
PRESENTATION ID = "Traffic" display mode "search traffic"
    PRESENTATION ID = "Turn Preview"
    PRESENTATION ID = "Route Preview"
PRESENTATION ID = "Pedestrian" pedestrian mode display

@Dasilvarsa, you was very insightful. I was hoping someone interested ask how should proceed if wanted to change some characteristic on Garmin Theme, which has not kmtf file available for edition because is embedded in the firwmare, but you went straight to the point ... The hint was to leave a full xml element as example, and not a mere string of the route that would serve only to change a theme ready (France, Nederland..)
Any empty theme as the Polska, Luxembourg, Belgium (or a personal, as yours), uses the same parameters of Garmin theme, unless we add some other, obeying the xml standard as present in the other themes. Now this answered the question of the usefulness of empty Themas present in Garmin gps. They are there exactly for this purpose: easy alteration of one or a few map parameters based on the Garmin theme. Besides providing simple customizations (such as routes), allows for the most curious, identify elements of map and quickly test the layout result in the gps, which helps a lot when you want to make deeper changes, that can be in function of any real need (facilitate traffic visualization, for example) or by mere aesthetic issue.

The number for objects in the post 26, for example
    26 Ferry

seem to be the decimal codes for Garmin objects - see "cGPSmapper User Manual" at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], where you can find
    26 Ferry
    27 Ferry
    28 Political Boundary
    29 County Boundary
    30 International Boundary
    31 River

Caty, I understand your post as a quiet and polite response denying the arguments of my last post. If we consider the images that you posted, my assertions do not hold up, but I reaffirm what I said. I agree that only arguments are not enough, we need concrete evidence, but it is not the case with the images you show. What is the source? What is the theme file software version? (looks pretty old, because not even have the theme Navigon). Would that the Belgium, Luxembourg and Polska themes are empty or not? We do not know, although they appear to have different content. The only way to know would be if we make our own capture or use recent images from known and trusted sources. Also we do not know which version of firmware gps is used, which map used (when there is not City Navigator the themes can work imperfectly). It is also important to mention the country, there is a possibility of a color overlay with maps that have local peculiarities.
I can say with absolute certainty that these empty themes are using the same parameters of garmin theme, like show some images that follow, identical for both themes, in my country and and in the following conditions: nuvi 3790 -> 3490, fw 7.20, CNSA 2013.30, I even did capture.
