Now the problem is over and everything seems to work correctly (I didn't test it extensively).
I also removed [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\MapSource\Families\TOPO Great Britain v2\1\Logos] and all its subdirectories from the registry. Now the osgb.gif image isn't displayed at start-up of the Topo Great Britain.

The trick with the older product tdb works in older versions of mapsource like 6.13.7 but not in the newer versions like 6.15.6. Here it leads to an error and shuts down mapsource.

That's correct. I forgot to mention it. I always work with MapSource 6.13.7, since all my maps work correctly with that MapSource version.

Been using my Garmin for a week now & was hoping to get TOPO on a nuvi3790T

I've just downloaded Garmin Mapsource Topo Great Britain v2 "locked" from another source, it's 1.44 GB & has many small .img files within the folder.
Do these images have to be merged? I was expecting a single large image file.

Upgraded to MapSource 6.16.3. Now it says Topo is locked and directs me to 'Unlock Online'. What's up? Do I have to reinstal Topo to get back to the original MapSource?

If you're unlocking with a 25-character code generated by [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] then you should use the SECOND TAB in "Map Product Manager".

Thanks. Although dated I like Topo as it has lots of small maps sections. One of my etrex's only has 8MB memory. The open source maps I've looked at have some single map sections bigger than this (including my immediate area!).

Can I split a single IMG file on the PC to reduce it's size? Preferably by dragging a window around part of it?

i just reactivate this thread if you don't mind.

I try to install this map on my Garmin GPS 62 csx. I managed that, but i can't see any details, only the basic map. The basic map is also
the only I can see in Mapsource, but i can choose als the small clusters.

This is my config:

MapSOurce 6163
Topo Great Britain v2 (141)
GMapTool for password
TOPOGB2 Patchfile put into in C:\Garmin\TOPOGB
there are 752 .img files and some others after installing it

Where is the problem now and how can I fix it?

In Mapsource Menu /View--> deselect Basemap only
