    Default Nuvi Pre-boot Mode

    Hi,

I followed the following instructions posted on making a cure firmware but I was unable to get 2565 into pre-boot mode.
Whenever windows 7 x64 detects the gps, it cannot install the device usb driver because the gps preboot mode only turns on for a few seconds.

    What steps have I missed?

    1. Power OFF your Nuvi.
    2. Press and keep holding the most left upper corner of the LCD screen
    3. Power ON your Nuvi but DON NOT release your finger either from Power button nor from LCD screen (keep both pressed until the procedure ends)
    4. You will notice Nuvi boots in Pre-Boot mode. Now quickly connect your USB cable.

    Regards

If it's a modern device you firstly have to put it in Storage Mode via Diagnostic Page / MTP settings-
From volume page , hold on right upper corner for some seconds.More here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Updater.exe for use in pre-boot to flash RGN frmware files is available here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Garmin USB Drivers are available here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

How to access Pre-Boot for car navigation series Nuvi:
    Spoiler:
Note: To use Updater.exe in pre-boot you must have Garmin USB Drivers loaded to the PC.

Most nuvi models can be placed into pre-boot mode for flashing by starting with the unit fully OFF, simply holding the screen in the appropriate place [for most, but not all, that's the upper left corner] and then plugging the USB lead into the unit. Have the USB lead already connected to the PC [preferably a rear port] and updater.exe open ready loaded with the *.rgn file to flash. When the USB is connected, the unit will power up and immediately enter pre-boot.

If nuvi can boot, try to enter diagnostic mode by pressing battery icon for ~5 seconds and then connect USB cable to computer. It your unit can enter into 'pseudo' pre-boot that way it will hold pre-boot indefinitely without going to the white calibration screen which it will do if a flash isn't commenced quickly enough as in 'normal' pre-boot mode. Particularly handy with 7xx units which are notoriously stubborn about entering and holding pre-boot.

You have to navigate to get to the good.

    Followed your instruction.
Upon seeing the garmin power up, I released the power button while keep pressing the top-left corner of the LCD screen. This led the gps into screen calibration mode instead.

This is normal, nuvi waits for about 30 seconds in pre-boot mode, if you don't start flashing in this time, it goes to calibration procedure.

Don't you use updater.exe? This program should detect device in pre-boot mode.

Thanks....The gps finally can be detected by updater.exe.

Caty, I did set the gps in storage mode. Cannot find such setting in diagnostic page. But anyway, Kano's instructions helped. The gps is detected in the updater.exe for flashing.

    Thanks to both of you!

    Steps used to access pre-boot
    3. turn off the gps by press power button ~7 sec
    4. turn back on, while the garmin logo is showing, put your finger on top of "RM" area, when you should see the word "system" flashing, plug in your USB cable right away, now the updater should recognize the device. But make sure you click OK fast enough, before the "system" went away. I've been trying this whole day, finally figure out.

    taken from:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    firmware used:
    nuvi37xx_GCDFile__430.cgd

    and lastly:
Garmin Cure 3 used to do the flash... Tool was very easy and worked flawlessly!!
