I used both FirmwarePatcher, 2.2 and 2.3. Here both produced exactly the same GUPDATE_Patched.gcd (compared with an Hex editor). I loaded the one made with V2.3 on my 62s, works fine (I have only a few self-made jnx rasters to test, but these showup just fine).
I am sorry I have a slow and shaky interent connexion (over satellite), so no link but I'll try to attach it to a PM to you.

Francis, you're right! Thanks for the feedback, but the FirmwarePatcher 2.3 (newer) apparently has no effect in fw 3.0 62's series. Unfortunately I don't have a 62 to test.
If you have the fw 3.00 patched and tested, let us the link..
Am sorry not having been able to collaborate. The intend was make things easier for the beginner...

Hi all
I've patched firmware 3.0 with Firmwarepatcher 2.3 (**************.com) and definitely it's working with GPSMAP 62S.
I can get all what was downloaded for my dead Colorado from Garmin service.
I am not able to upload the patched firmware but it's so easy to do.

I took the 3.0 fw (62s) you gave (the one which wasn't correctly patched).
Then I patched with Firmwarepatcher 2.3 but the link I gave is not authorized on this forum (I'm sorry for this mistake) and has been blanked.
I've no megaupload or whatsoever account.
I don't know if I can upload this file as a *.rar attachement with a size of 2734ko.

I try

This file is the GPUPDATE.GCD patched for GPSMAP 62. Tested working.
First you should downgrade to FW 2.80 if necessary.
Unrar the file.
Place it in the device "Garmin" directory restart your Gps. Done
If you check in "about" it will not appear as patched because I kept the original name.
As said above I'm able to use all the .JNX files I had in a Colorado
