The reason I bought Garmin originally was the cost of 'official' maps and was looking at independant maps which would also a lot easier to update with a one off payment. Things have probably changed now. So, if I may suggest. Don't start off with the brand for Thailand but start off with what maps are available and then go for a machine which fits, whatever brand.

The Mio is so abundant better. Although the acquisition is sometimes not as authentic as I'd like, it's no altered than the Garmin, and the accession to the satellites is 100 times better. Route planning is about instantaneous. I've approved the Roadmate, and several added units, and absolutely frankly, for the price, this is the best assemblage I've appear across. To anyone that is snubbing this unit, I'd say that it's because they aren't application the assemblage properly.

In GPS - Maps tells the stories.
For Thailand itself there is so many software and maps.
I tried almost all of them. Powermap, Papago, Garmin, Miomaps, Sygic, Ndrive. TomTom, Navitel & others.
Which is the best I can't tell exactly. Only difference is maps colours and some features pending on the software and device.
Most important - find a device and software that has map availability and continue support.
No specific brand - as long as it is reliable and accurate.

You write Airionfoo. Y have Mio 269 digiwalker, Mio Moov S505, TT510 and y test whith success all devices. The Garmin function whith Garmin maps. Dont accept any type of "triks". Mio devices: yes. My Moov 505 works very fine whith all type of navigation sw. Ciao...

The problem with MIO is not wasy to update the map (for me).

I have used Mio for 4 years and still working instead of my fathers garmin nüvi which has power supply problems, freezing problems etc. I vote for mio.
