Yes you can. (And do not forget to update your Vista HCx with the latest firmware, anyhow.)
Can anyone with experience with an eTrex Vista HCx please tell me if can use 4Gb Class 4 Micro SDHC (not SD) cards please? I've tried Garmin's website and left the same question however they seem a bit tardy with their response.

but this slows the screen refresh when using the GPS, it seems
I do not know if this is related to the Micro SDHC card 4 where to file on the card. I will make tests to see where it may come.
Below is a FAQ found at Garmin.
Question: What is the largest SD/microSD card supported by an expandable memory device?
Réponse:There are several products within the Outdoor and Fitness families that can accept expandable memory cards in SD or microSD format. These cards, for some devices, can be used to store active track-log data, however, all expandable memory devices can utilize the additional memory to store MapSource products.
There are limitations to the size of SD/microSD card used and to the number of detailed mapping segments that can be recognized by a device.
If at the most recent unit software version, these limitations are:
* There is no limitation to the size of SD/microSD card used but the device will only recognize 4GB of detailed mapping
* Each expandable memory device will be able to recognize up to 2025 detailed mapping segments
If 2025 detailed mapping segments are loaded to an SD/microSD card but does not reach 4GB worth of data, the unit will not show any more detailed mapping than what is provided by the mapping segments.
After the tests, I found the cause of the problem of refreshing the screen. This is not the 4GB microSDHC card, which is the cause, but the file poi.gpi (2.6MB) located in the folder POI. After deleting this file, the refresh of the GPS is quick with the cards micro sd micro sdhc 4GB and 2GB.
Excuse me for my English.
