Garmin Bluechart G2 and Mapsource Questions/Problems
Hi, I purchased from Garmin the Garmin G2 - HXUS039R-US (v11.00) on microSD and want to load into Mapsource so that I can combine other maps into a single gmapsupp.img for use on my GPS. Although Garmin sells the G2 charts on CD, microSD and datacard, only the CD can be used in Mapsource (I didn't realize this when I bought the microSD version). There are various postings for using GMapTool to split the image and load into Mapsource. I've tried this with the Bluechart G2 and something is not working. When I attempt this, the Mapset name is in Mapsource; however, only partial charts mapping symbols are displayed. Is there a special procedure for splitting/combining the Garmin Bluechart G2 (I've looked and can't find). Thank you
you cant see Bluechart G2 in Mapsource, you need Homeport to see them on pc-
copy any Bluechart G2 img in an sd (Garmin directory)and insert it in your pc, Bluecharts G2 are made for SDs [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

If you actually bought HXUS039R-US (v11.00) from Garmin (instead of downloading the map with links provided here at Noeman) you should be entitled to a free upgrade of that map. All BlueChart g2 & BlueChart g2 Vision with version 11.00 where recalled by Garmin. Details could be found at Garmin homepage.

There's no CD edition of BlueChart g2 charts. You may find MapSource CDs for the discontinued BlueChart (g1) products. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
As catymag pointed out - Use Garmin HomePort to view the chart on a PC.
It's possible to use GMapTool/cGPSmapper to make a crippled MapSource version. That needs some tweaking but it's not worth the efforts since HomePort can do it better without hours of trial-and-errors attempts.
Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of the 2011 recall - I know there was a recall of the 2008 versions due to incorrect chart depths. It is pretty annoying that the microSD version can't be used in Mapsource. The reason I want to do this is to combine my bluechart G2 + topo + city/streets for my local area into a single gmapsupp.img file. I'm thinking about trying to merge individual chart img files instead of all and see if Mapsource can handle that.
I've tried Homeport - There are two problems with Homeport: 1) Homeport won't read the img file from the PC or the Garmin GPS. The img has to be on a USB storage device (microDS or copy to flash USB stick). 2) Homeport won't print the chart page/image. The chart is "locked" for printing. When planning a route, I prefer to have a printed copy as a "guide book" for an overall view of trip and paper backup. I do have PC charting software and the free NOAA charts, but now I'm into planning on the PC, transferring waypoints and routes to/from the Garmin GPS. A minor issue, the waypoint descriptions and icons get messed up.
I was hoping that I could use my licensed Garmin charts and do this with one piece of software to simplify route planning and waypoint management. I'll keep trying different things and post back what I find. Thanks again,
