You need to have a China / Taiwan firmware which support chinese characters.

If you can have the English version, will be great!
ok. I just tested with Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.20wp with HD2 locality set to CHINA.
no offset issues. but even with chinese support, no text shows.
I have tried flashing my phone with hongkong firmware, Singapore firmware, and singapore firmware w/ extended chinese sim&trad fonts. still no joy with road names.
tested with Garmin765, no offset issues but it can read chinese text.
Eureka!!!!
Thanks soooo much.
I've been trying to get a corrected China to work on my Garmin 350 for 2 weeks - finally happened with this Venus NT 2010.21.
I decided to go the SD card route as a gmapsupp.img file. For those like me who are not expert at this I've included the steps
which I followed on my Nuvi 350.
BTW, I'm new to this site and I hope I've posted to the right spot and I hope there's not too much detail.
note: back up your unit's drive before proceeding.
steps
1) backed up my gmapbmap.img from the units primary drive to my pc. Deleted the basemap from unit's drive.
2) copied the venus base map to my unit's /Garmin directory. file gmapbmap.img 14,412Kb
3) on the SD card - copied venus gmapprom.img 707424Kb to sd card Garmin directory - then changed name to gmapsupp.img
4) Had previously obtained my sd card ID and using that and map ID 2087 obtained a unlock code using KeyGen v1.2.exe
5) pasted unlock code into notepad and saved on sdcard Garmin directory as gmapsupp.unl
6) copied the venus bin file 006B082300.bin 91Kb to my SD card's Garmin file
7) inserted sd card into unit.
8) fired her up and bingo it worked.
================================
my test as to whether any of the maps I've tried are successfully corrected is the following ( alternate is to go to China for test )
1) obtain the coordinates (decimal format) of a known landmark visually from Google Earth. Do this visually NOT from someone's kml data.
2) input co-ordinates into your unit's "favourite" or comparable menu.
3) go to coordinates and verify that map location exactly visually matches Google Earth visual location. If yes you've got a corrected map -
if no, your map is offset and more research is needed.
note the POI's bundled with the various maps are not an indication of corrected as they are tired to the maps inherent
offset - hence use an independent outside source for coordinate testing which is free of offset problem i.e. Google Earth satellite imagery
==============================================
In nuvi 350 one would do following:
turn on unit and verify the venus map has been selected in "Settings - map - info
1) back until opening menu and go -where to - my locations
2) - scroll down to coordinates - enter in decimal format coordinates you obtained from Google Earth -next - save as - type a
title - save - to favourites "ok"
3) go back to navigable map - locate yourself relatively near your coordinates of the map by "set location"
4) back - where to - my locations - favourites - choose your saved coordinates title and select "map"
5) verify location on map with Google Earth
6) if you're lucky like me they'll match.
Hi Andy, thanks very much for the map.
I have a hard time trying to download the file!
After running it through Google Translator to try & understand the chinese links, I managed to trigger a download.
But is would complete without errors at around 90~100MB and the resultant RAR file give an un-expected end-of-file error!
Is there any other links for this extremely hard to find file?
