Writing a good tutor takes some time and I'm not going to write one if nobody is interested in creating "unlocked" IMG files (it works for every map that I've tested)
So, if there are enough requests, I'm gone write the tutor.

Download Instructions:
Just extract the map (img) from the archive and copy/drag it to your memory card (inside the Garmin folder).
If your device or Memory Card does not have a "Garmin" folder, create one.

Map is unlocked.

its not v12 anything----its europe 2009--and still has the lock codes in it-

use europe 2010.10 for italy not this old one

Let me ask something, and sorry if this seems too obvious or stupid:

1) Is it possible to change the key (serial of the equipment, I guess) by using an HEX editor? Is it possible just to open the IMG file in the HEX editor and change the old key by the new one? Will it work?

Yes, search and repleace. There are no dashes in key when written in img.
