1. There is no difference between the .gpi files used for NT and NTU maps [your 1390 should use only NT maps however for optimum performance]. Corrupt POI files are a common cause of erratic behaviour and even are a cause of units 'bricking'. Remove whatever .gpi files you have on it and re-download if you need them. kenta2's cyclops files are safe: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
2. Please check: Tools > Settings > Map > Trip Log. If set to 'Show' then set it to 'Hide'.'Thanking Posts' are banned.
