    Default Whereis V21 and HERE 2013 Q4

Could any of you guys with a Toyota that uses Whereis maps please tell me what navigation software your head units use.
I ask as my new Toyota uses HERE maps from 2013 Q4 and I am battling with Toyota for an update which doesn't seem to be available.
At least that is what I think, Toyota insist that I need a micro sd card with whereis V21. I cannot understand how this can work on my unit which runs iGO.
Reading other threads about whereis maps the download appears to be huge so I wonder what is contained in it?
My present micro sd card supplied with the vehicle is less than 500 mb and contains the usual iGO folder for content, maps poi etc but importantly no .exe which I guess is hidden in the unit.

Do you mean the DVD Sensis Whereis map data C1 head units for earlier Totoya/Lexus in AU? They run a proprietary Denso/VDO Dayton firmware afaik.

hi Neil, I am not sure what I mean!
I am having an ongoing battle with Toyota Australia over the out of date maps supplied with my new Prado.
I have discovered that all new Prado vehicles sold here use iGO mapping using HERE maps.
Toyota insist that I need a new micro sd card with V21 whereis maps on it. I find it hard to believe that this would work in my head unit. It is also not easy to test one as according to my dealer "there are none in the country"

Wot? It runs iGO with HERE off a microSD, yet the dealer sez you need one with Whereis V21? AFAIK iGO doesn't use Whereis in AU at all. The last Prado to run whereis mapping from a DVD-based head unit was the 2010 model. Since then Totota has moved to a different system which i know nothing much about, but it seems that the current [2015] still uses Whereis map data but only V18 according to this page of Toyoya's:

Is this what your faceplate looks like?:

If so it's clearly not anything like the earlier Denso units which used DVD map data from Whereis. BTW, TomTom bought whereis from Sensis in April 2015 interestingly, and they continue to run the whereis site as navshop, either url presently works and shows that the last whereis update supplied DIRECTLY by them was for 2010 Prado. Nothing for 2011 which was maybe when the shift in procedure/marketing was made:

I do suspect what the dealer is trying to tell you is that the latest mapping available for your unit is V18 from sensis and you'd need to find a way to 'import' the V21 whereis data to a microSD card to have up-to-date maps. If so, that would be made very much 'tongue in creek' because i believe the SD models are updated with a special software tool. I understand the mapping data and licence are purchased from Toyota on individual 'use-once' disc, then the microSD is updated via PC with the software tool. The updated microSD has the VIN and the specific licence serial key permanently linked preventing it from being copied and used in another vehicle.

That's clearly HERE mapping, not whereis/tomtom. Let's know what BS answer you get from Toyota .....

Yes I will as soon as I get a response. So far I have asked Toyota Australia who just pass me back to the dealer. I have made a complaint to consumer protection who agree that a new vehicle should not have out of date maps, yet the only response they got from Toyota so far was "ask your dealer"
I have also been in contact with Senator Muir, sent him all the information but no response. Lastly the FCAI who were recommended by Senator Muir's office but they haven't even had to decency to reply.
I have asked questions on the Toyota owners club forum and the Hilux forum. This has confirmed that my vehicle is not a "one off" as all new Prado's have the same unit, but other than that nobody seems to care that Toyota are trying to charge me over $300 for an sd card map update which they haven't got and probably wont work anyway!

Thanks for posting, I hope it will work for somebody but my maps are definitely HERE and not whereis.
Are whereis maps much better/detailed than HERE as my entire SD card is 400Mb not 5.4 Gb like the one above?

You can argue forever about which is better or worse as far as mapping data being up to date. They are equal in different ways, one will be up to date with new roads and changes somewhere and the other won't but then it's vice versa somewhere else so it depaends where to live or mostly travel. Whereis seems to have richer POIs historically however. The size is due to different file formats and compression ratios used by the mapmakers. The Garmin Whereis *.img file for AU NZ is quite less than 270MiB from memory and HERE is ~270MiB with similar data both HERE and Sensis but the latter contains the same mapping data as any other device's Sensis release.
