    weel Lexus 350IS 2008 maps loading problem(car firmware)

    Hi,
    My friend bought latest version of navigation DVD-s (set of 4 DVD) for Europe in Lexus service. His car is Lexus 350IS 2008 for American market and with car came north america u32 DVD.
    When he put dvd in reader nothing happend. He called service and they say that car firmware is probably old and must be updated. Does anybody have same problem or know any solution?

    Thanks

    Pls see my response to your question in the 15.1 request. I am guessing you need to disconnect the battery, wait 5 mins, reconnect and then install the new disc. Please note this loses all memory and you may have to re teach several items, specifically windows and sun roof. This is strictly a guess !

    Be sure you have an ORIGINAL [OEM] disc available before doing that because disconnection of power to the Denso [and type] systems will wipe the unit's volatile memory. Then an OEM disc with full firmware needs to be inserted to re-write complete firmware. Many discs are map updates only or may contain merely some minor firmware updates/bug fixes and therefore cannot rewrite complete firmware to volatile memory. The OEM disc does not need to be the one supplied with the car, it can be any compatible disc containing the firmware in my experience. I would treat the Toyota dealer's advice as suspect, rather than it being 'old' firmware, more likely there is a difference in the firmwares of NA and EU therefore an EU OEM disc is needed after disconnecting the battery, because an EU map data disc is simply not read by another region's firmware. That's certainly the case with 2nd-hand JN Toyota vehicles imported into AU and NZ. You may be wise to get first hand experience reports from someone who's actually done US>EU before proceeding imho to ensure that there is local firmware compatible with that particular NA unit or it might end up bricked. Neil, thank you about mentioning about needing the original disc to do like soft reset before putting in the new updated disc. Will try soon.

    @Tonci
    Lexus for US market doesn't read native new EU map discs.
    You will need a special modified map disc version for US car.
    But Lexus map discs doesn't contains map for Bosnia-Hercegovina.
    If your location really Bosnia, you can't use Lexus map.
    Possible to convert from another car map an US Lexus compatible disc with EU map, write me PM if interest.
