Thanks Neil. Both vehicles are the current model. The Prius v is a 2013 with HDD (at least not a DVD) type of navigation. The legal info part does say it is the whereis map version 19 as well as a Map update ID (which might mean something for upgrading)

Btw, not sure if this helps but it seems these are the procedures to update the navi which means I'll need to find a way to get a serial number off the disc.

    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Update: Even following this procedure of copying the file into the //mapupdate/all directory of the USB stick, the system doesn't recognise the updated map files.

Ok, thank for the additional info. As the updates for models 2012> aren't sold by Whereis but the map data is theirs i guess that means they've made some deal with Toyota not to market the updates directly. Maybe have a quiet word to your friendly local Toyota dealer to see what you can find out because the DVD version definitely has additional info on it which appears to be specific to HDD head units and electric/hydrogen vehicles. Have a look at the early posts by Terry Dactil about that addition info and referring to 'loading the HDD with an external HDD tool'. Maybe it's possible to do that by plugging in a usb stick [with that tool and the map update ID loaded] to transfer the data from the map disc loaded in head unit's CD/DVD slot? [absolutely just guessing though].

Let's know if you find out anything worthwhile, good luck ....

EDIT: Sorry, didn't notice your second post immediately above, i was answering the first one. I've looked quickly at the PDF, seems a Licence Key is a 'one-shot' job and depending on which system you have, it might not be possible to use the DVD data whether directly or copied on a usb stick:
HDD navigation system (update tool type): Only “Map version number” is shown.
HDD navigation system (web license key type): “Map version number” and “Map update ID” are shown.
I think the second one is locked out surely if the Map Update ID has already been used to obtain a licence key number. Maybe the first one can be used with that 'HDD Tool' if you can get hold of the software. Which system type do you have?

Just a follow up about Verifying the Burned Disc for anyone that's interested.

    Using TDK DVD+R DL
I burned an image with imgburn (x4 speed, manually set Layerbreak) and verification failed. Got about 2000 error's. Damn
Reburned at x2.4 again verification failed.
Checked the logs and noticed all error's were after the Layer break.
Burned with Poweriso at x4. Damn thing recognized the disc as DVD+R but didn't recognize the 8.5 GB and ran out of room.
Set it to 8.5 and again verification failed. This time at 89%. Second layer again.
I manually checked all the files on the 3 disc's and they seemed fine.
Put them in 3 car's and they all worked fine.
They all reported no valid maps and about 60 sec's later they loaded.

    Hello,
Last ditch effort of trying to figure it out before I give up. I have downloaded V20 of the Whereis Australia and New Zealand Sat Nav program. I have removed the Loading.kwi file and burned the ISO file onto a Double Layer disc (DVD-RW DL). Unfortunately, my disc still won't work in my GPS and it keeps coming up with the error saying that it can not read the disc. Any ideas what I have done wring? It's seriously annoying me. I am trying to update the GPS on my 2008 Lexus RX350 which is currently using version 14….
    Thanks

    Hi Prazstar.
Did you get any errors when you first inserted this disk? I have downloaded the ISO and burned it to a DVD+R dual layer as you've said (not sure about burning speed though) anyway - my GPS keeps coming up with an error message so I guess it didn't work. Any suggestions?

This mean that the V20 torrent .iso file is the same disc that is labelled for Toyota's: Whereis v20 Toyota Map Update V20/9 DVD AU-NZ & Subaru's: Whereis v20 Subaru Map Update V20 C1 AU-NZ. Hope this helps.

Hi BJReplay, How did you fit the whole file on a standard dvd - even with removing the LOADING.KWI it still seems to exceed the size?Am I missing something?

G'day blackcard. Welcome to GPSPower. I moved your other post here and merged the 3 too, better not to post consecutively [use the 'Edit Post' button instead] and post in existing rather than open a new thread.

Read this exchange between Schermann and myself about what discs work: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [post #16>].

I'd try to burn it to a DVD+R DL without removing LOADING.KWI, or for Single Layer use DVD-R or DVD+RW with the file removed [other reports say it does fit].

I'm at a bit of a loss to understand some of the comments here.
My son is about to take delivery of a 2004 ES300. I downloaded the torrent mentioned and burned it straight to a SL Verbatim +R disc. It fitted without removing the loading.kwi file and obviously fitted even more easily when I removed it and burned a second disc.
Just waiting to test it . . .
Do some vehicles only accept DL discs?
PS. Does V20 support speed cameras or is that option system/firmware dependent???

G'day Revhead. I guess that your SL disc probably won't work because maybe something is missing off it. The ISO burns 4,779,571,200 bytes of data which cannot fit on a normal SL disc with only has 4,706,074,624 bytes of space available. Maybe you've got a disc that has slightly more space than usual and can fit the additional 73,496,576 bytes. I know there were 800MB CDs around that could take ~80 mins of music instead of the usual 700 MB which took only ~70 mins but i haven't heard of extended DVDs.

This is the reason no one else has been able to do it, indisputably shown in this image:

    oi7zae

In the BD burner there's a SL disc, and it's only the usual 4.7GB [4,706,074,624 bytes] available. Microsoft calls it as 4.38GB and they're technically correct because they're still using the original binary Gigabyte [factor of 1024] but these days that is better called a Gibibyte [GiB] 'cos everybody other than M$ who is measuring drive space including CD/DVD makers uses the decimal form of GB [factor of 1000]:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
In the DVD burner we have this Toyota C1 ISO burnt to a Double Layer disc and you can see that it's total size is 4,779,571,200 bytes, or Microsoft's binary 4.45 GB [actually now less confusingly we should call Gibibytes, GiB] or just under 4.8 GB [decimal] so cannot fit on a 'normal' Single Layer 4.7 GB disc which only has 4,706,074,624 bytes available so it's short by 73,496,576 bytes, that's ~73.5 MB decimal, or, in binary measure ~70.1 MiB [Mebibytes].

Some systems don't support DL discs but all the ones that support DL can also use SL.

Whereis CI and C2 discs don't support cams, but i believe that's because of a firmware limitation of the Denso/DVO Dayton units and isn't a limitation by Whereis.

    My bad.
I thought it burned okay but when I checked I realised it wasn't complete.
Opened my big mouth too soon. Have been unable to get any disk to work on the 2004 ES300.
These drives are extremely picky it would seem. I've always sworn by Verbatim +Rs - never had much truck with -Rs?
On another note is it possible to load some other nav system using the DVD player, for example IGO?

As far as i know, the Denso/VDO Dayton systems will only read DVD+R Double Layer, DVD-R SL or DVD+RW SL. Nobody has got DVD+R Single Layer to work that i've heard of.
On another note is it possible to load some other nav system using the DVD player, for example IGO?
Not possible i think, need to somehow 'unlock' the OS somehow. No cr@ck available that i'm aware of sorry.
