G'day mobstarr, welcome to GPS Power. Are you using the full AUNZ disc with LOADING.KWI or the stripped down version without LOADING.KWI to fit on a SL disc? If it's the latter then try with the full disc. If it's the full disc now you're using, eject it and disconnect the power to the head unit or at the battery for a while. When you power back on, insert the full DL disc. You may have to switch the ignition off and on or re-load the disc a few times but wait until you see a screen message 'insert map disc/not a map data disc' or similar before you do that, definitely don't break power if it's loading the software from the disc.

Unfortunately i think once another regional selection has been made in the JN menu you cannot easily go back to JN software going by the reports i've read.

well the file is downloading at the moment, i am planning to remove all Australia items as i live in NZ, if i do that then hopefully all the downloaded files will fit in one dvd. As far location goes, since i chose AUS - TWS region hopefully the disk will work, finger cross see what happens.

Not sure if it puts your mind at ease but I'm in the same boat as you, and also in NZ. I hear there's a Russian dude in Auckland that can do both the navigation and also convert the whole unit to English. I've been in touch with him but I'm in Christchurch, so makes it a bit hard logistically. Not to mention he wants money for his efforts.

FYI, got NZ maps working by leaving the battery disconnected for roughly half an hour, reconnecting and turning headunit on. Removed the old JP disk, inserted DVD-R SL with AUS POI's removed.
Still no service menu though and still JP text on all other functions.

Anyone know where to find English firmware for a headunit in a 2004 Toyota Mark X? Obviously a Denso unit but unsure of model no.

Did you first go into the region selection menu by pressing top right then lower right corners in sequence as said in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]? If you haven't changed the location in that menu then the unit will never recognise the NZ mapping data in English.

well there is a secret menu where you can change the model info region to Aus however i am not doing it as i have tried to change the location to Aus in navigation secret/diagnostic menu and went dead end. I have heared about the russian guy matter of fact he lives pretty close to where i live lol and yes he will charge me few hundys.

i have just finished downloading the software (too busy at work so took me that long) and will try to burn it today.

    see how it goes.

Well first of all thanks to this thread as my GPS worked on my Mark x

I followed all the steps as mentioned at the beginning of this thread except i removed all AUS POIS files which are starts from POIS001 to 007, which made the iso file of 3.05gb. Burned it according to the instructions and poped it in ... walla... started working.

Now if the loading doesn't work within the existing japanese navigation you have to change the location via Navigation diagnostic menu, since i changed to AUS it worked automatically. now one thing isn't working is voice command button, when i change the volume this lady speaks up with english language ofcours but the button doesn't work, if anyone can help me out that will be great.

now nocturnal, to change the language you can access through product diagnostic menu and change the model info... i am kind of reluctant to do that at the moment but i believe that option may change the language.

Or i can just pay 100 bucks to that russian guy hahah

Well, I may have pissed the Russian dude off as I told him I got the gps working (noticed a few people advertising on trademe too). As for changing the rest of the unit to English, i'm happy to give it a crack but have no idea how to now get into the menu to change the language/model info. The Russian mentioned something about needing a proprietary cable or adapter which made me wonder if you need to change it via the ecu? Surely not?!

Also, i'm assuming the voice command button is probably tied to the rest of the system e.g. Bluetooth etc. And probably not the navigation.

its normal for him to get upset as he won't be able to make any dollar hahaha.

I believe only way to change language is via toyota software which is called toyota techstream i think and plugging it into ecu using ecu cable. i also believe you can change the radio station despite the Russian guy mentioned it can't be changed.

if you are willing to give it a try, i will try on my one. and this seems going off topic so i will send you my email via private message.

Guys, i'm sure there'd be many others who'll value the knowledge of how to do a full changeover of the entire headunit to EN. So if you have success with your further efforts please post the results in here, together with a 'how to' if you get it working and i'll spin it off as a tutorial thread for you if that's appropriate.

There's lots of these grey-import Toyotas with DVD Densos around in RHD countries, they're on both side of the ditch but seem particularly numerous in NZ. Good luck and post back the result even if negative. Thanks and cheers.
