I'm not very surprised. All Toyota models including Prado use C1 I think!

As Neil has mentioned I believe you need c1 for the Prado. I have completed the process outlined in Terry Dactil's post and now have a 3.77GB V18 c1 DVD. I will try it tomorrow on my 09 Kakadu and post here if it works.

@nnhan88, C1 from Terry Dactil's post seems to have worked for me although I had to make another disc as the 1st one got damaged in my clumsy attempt to insert it in the DVD reader under the passenger seat. 2nd copy is fine and displays as R18 v7 (from memory) in the Map Data screen. Maps appear to load OK, won't know till I actually try using it next if they work correctly though.

I have read the warnings about retaining the original disk as it contains the OS files. What should it look like? The one that came out of my DVD reader was just marked as "DVD Navigation Map ....." with v16 and Whereis logo on it, I didn't get any other disc with the vehicle as it was purchased 2nd-hand via a dealer.

The disc shown in this post [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] is an oem 2009 V15 C2 disc for subaru. I believe the only difference would be the vehicle brand logo and the version number & year. If your disc looks different it is probably a map update disc (maybe?). I don't know what a map data only disc looks like, maybe they're the same as an oem but i wouldn't think so. The good news is that ANY version oem C1 will restore your basic OS files, regardless of year or vehicle logo. When you insert an oem disc, only the OS files are copied to volatile memory. The maps are used off the disc 'on the fly' whether it's an oem or map upgrade disc. I do suspect that at least some map update discs also contain fw upgrades or patches though.

My disc looks similar but only has "Toyota Motor Corporation" in very small writing. It carries other markings such as B51, D, 16 and the Whereis logo. There was some packaging in my glove box but it had v15 marked on it and no disc; that's what makes me think the original disc I have is only a map update. I also had a look at the files on it and they only seem to be map files like the ones in the v18 c1 download.

I'll try and make a copy of the label and post it up, perhaps another Prado owner can confirm what it is.

Probably the previous owner has done what many do when they update the disc themselves and binned (or even sold) the old disc thinking they will never need it again. If the dvd cover label shows V15 and your current disc shows V16 then it's an update disc almost certainly.

Bummer! I'll have another look but I'm pretty sure there was no other DVD in the "installation kit" docs I found in the glovebox.
