Default Problem with old Go 710 update and map activation

    Hi folks

I offered to update an old Go710 for a colleague - it was running original v650 maps, boot loader 4.86 and navcore 6.525

I've updated via TomTom Home to the latest bootloader for it and the navcore is now updated with one that reads SD cards over 2GB (it is now happily working with a 32GB test card in it!)

My issue is with getting maps onto the thing. According to Home the correct Europe maps set for it is 970.7468 - there's no Meta for that yet, but I installed the meta from the map set I downloaded for my Go940 from v970.7466 which I believe should work, but doesn't. I've since tried installing the whole map set for 970.7466 in case it's the activation that's the problem but as soon as I boot the device it tells me there's no map to choose from?

The device was supplied with West Europe maps (I think the 1GB set) so wondered if there's some issue with it not being able to cope with the full map set, or just not recognising it?

Any tips/suggestions gratefully received - I've been updated my Go940 for years with no issues, but this has me stumped!

Update your NC to 7.903, with NC 6.525 you can't use the current maps. You can activate the Europe_970_7468 about the Europe-100780.meta of the Europe_970_7490 ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]). The download of the needed Europe-100780.meta you can find in #2 of the link.

Patch your NC (7.903) to see the map on your device, activate the Europe_970_7468 with a tool of your choice and the given notes to use the map on your device.

P.S. a high-level-map 970_7466 doesn't run on your "low-level-device". These maps are running only under NC 9.0xx and above!

    Hi Alfred

The NC is on 7.903 as a result of the update I've done and bootloader is 5.5120. I've just copied the original maps back onto it so I can get beyond the map choice screen to check where it was updated to

That's the different map activation meta to either I've tried (100772 and 100774) so will give that a go with the maps I have - I presume when you're activating based on a .meta file you just delete the one in the map folder and replace with the correct one and no other steps required with fastactivate etc?

    Thanks for your help

    Adrian

You only need to replace the origin file Europe-100774.meta (delete it or rename it to Europe-100774.meta.ori ) in the Europe_970_7468-map with the Europe-100780.meta from the link above. Then activate the map with F/A or another tool of your choice. And the new NC 7.903 (from TT-Home-Update) must be patched (F/A or another tool of your choice)

Thanks - didn't see your PS until after I'd written my reply! Copying the map files over again for 970.7468 and have the correct meta to try

Will post back with the result!

Thanks again Alfred - all working now

I think I had some issues with the SD card I was using, as writing to it kept causing i/o errors and the device would just hang on boot up at the splash screen. Wrote the files to a different SD card and the process went smoothly and as expected!

Can I generate a working meta for this map with fastactivate for others to use, or is that not how it works having used the .meta file from a different map file?

Oh, if it were that simple. Sadly not. metas can ONLY be created from original/genuine/bought maps which is why we have to try to work around the problem but thanks for the offer.

PS If you've got a working copy of everything you want then NOW do a full Windows backup (forget using TTHome for this)

Yeah, first thing I did after it successfully booted was remove the card and copy the whole thing, incl hidden files, in case of any issues.

I've ordered an 8GB card for it, but for testing purposes was using an old 4GB, but now swapped to a 32GB that cost more than the nav's worth now! Defo need to transfer everything to the 8GB card when it finally turns up then I can return the nav to its owner
