Default TomTom ONe V1 has died - solutions??

My trusty ten year old TT ONE V1 has died (charger failed and took TomTom with it). Now all I get is green light and no switching on. I have tried all the resetting, to no avail, and now have opened the unit up. I have checked that when the mains charger is pugged in the battery voltage rises to 4.2 V, showing it is charging the battery OK.
On the underside of the Power PCB (PCB is marked Glasgow Pwr Pcb Rev 2.0) there is an 8 pin IC, marked 538B and A6204. This is unidentifiable - and unlike any of the ICs other TTs seem to have. Can anyone tell me what IC this is, and also ideas where to look for the failure.

By the way, when the battery is charged up, but the charger is then disconnected, pressing the power button brings the green light on. The onyl way to get the green light off is to reset the device (paperclip in reset hole).

    Any help is much appreciated.

Part 2 of my question is what to replace this with if I can't get it going again. I guess the choice is an old style TT from eBay (one that uses TT Home not the new fangled ones that I can't even update using my Linux laptop) or perhaps an old Android phone that I can root and then use to run TT, dedicated to TT. I don't want to root my main phone (An android one). Any other ideas anyone???? I do wish I'd bought another TT when the good easy to use ones were available.

Sounds like the power ic has seen 12v rather than the required 5v & blown! Green light only means there's some voltage getting to the unit, nothing more than that.
Unless you're good at very small soldering maybe just bin it or sell on eBay as "spares or repairs"

I would suggest any of these 520/720/530/730/540/740/550/750 as they're all easily "tweakable" and use TTHome

PS see these too:- [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

You do not need to root your phone to use this : [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Works very well on my android phone. Allmost all the old options plus traffic info speedlimits and warnings. All all for free. Try it!

It seems the 5V charger controller IC has died. I have this black beauty V1 too. (working) It's difficult to solder this tiny item. For Android TT, check your Android version for comptability reasons. If the TT from Google app store works you're OK.

Many thanks to all. I will try the Android install - I wasn't aware it could be done without rooting. I have a Motorola G 3rd edition so am looking forward to using TT on it. I am using HERE as a stopgap, but it's not as good as TT.

I'd have a go at the soldering on the old Tom Tom, if I can find out what the IC is and think it will fix it. It does rather seem like it was supplied with 12V. When I measured the car adapter there was zero output voltage. The fuse was duff. I replaced the fuse and the replacement blew immediately. The old TT One is in pieces on my desk and I am living in hope of it getting going. I'm also looking at some Tom Toms on eBay. I quite enjoyed playing with different Navcores and stuff.

So the 510 is not "tweakable"?

Of course the original GO series, One series and the x10's are too but you get more bangs for your bucks with the later x20/x30/x40/x50

    @wildsparrow

They're cheap now these older Tomtoms. Watch out for worn USB connectors or flat accupacks. The 'latest' older models has bigger screens ect. But slow CPU's.
Fastest calculations are on TomTom Go for Android or iOS with latest smartphones.

Good to know; but if I find a 510 really cheap, it should be ok to get it and "tweak" it for latest map? What is best core to use for 510?
