Default Several GPS all need updating advice needed.

Hello as a total new chap to GPS updating I have joined to learn. I have 3 items to update 300, 500,700. I have started reading the forum and there is such a lot I don't understand. The one I am fiddling with at the moment is the 700. I would not switch off or load. I saved data using TTH and reinstalled no joy the same. Reformatted drive/ connected to TTH did updates/ switched off/ re connected now up to date. Now switches on and off so not bad for a start. No Maps showing.
I realise to you regular folk the next bit is easy especially with some of the patches already sorted and linked. Having read one of the tutorials I am still a bit confused. A bit/ lot of guidance needed. Any offers please.

since above I have downloaded FastActivate to desktop.
