Default TomTom v1.10 and tethering help needed

I have a Nexus 7, without a mobile data facilty, running TomTom 1.10 which is tethered to my mobile phone and am finding it impossible to get the TomTom app to connect to my phones data connection. Can anyone tell me if itís possible to use my phones data connection while tethered and, if so, how to achieve it? After much frustration I donít have much hair left to pull out now.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have the same... but it works:

    A) A phone with TomTom and no SIM-cards in it.
    B) My usual phone without TomTom plus SIM-Cards.

    B) is setup for tethering and A) simply connected to the WLAN that is generated by B)... So you simply have to tell A) to connect to the WLAN from B)... like you usually connect to any WLAN...

But this has nothing todo with TomTom... it's the usual way how tethering works.

    Thanks for the reply.

My problem isn't getting the tethering set up, that works no problem, however when the tomtom app is running it doesn't connect to my phones data connection.

Does the TomTom phone connect to any other WLAN when TomTom is running? I have several phones with TomTom here... they all connect to any WLAN (incl. Tethering-WLAN) while TomTom is running...

Do you have any firewall running that has TomTom on the BlackList resp. not on the WhiteList?

My primary connection is bluetooth when I am out and about not wi-fi.

Bluetooth is sometimes tricky... and I have never used Bluetooth-Tethering... why don't you simply use pure WLAN-Tethering... it's working like a charm in my car...

In case your TomTom phone is also connected to a loudspeaker via bluetooth... might be that it cannot handle bluetooth-tethering and other bluetooth-things at the same time...

Thanks for the suggestion it's much appreciated.

Whilst I am very computer literate I am not phone literate so bear with me here, I have just tethered via wlan and everything is working as you suggested but as my data cap is only 450mb I will have to keep an eye on what is used. I know that the TomTom data usage is relatively minimal but I am unsure what other sneaky buggers lie in android lollipop that may want to take advantage. My phone generally has wi-fi, data and location turned off so data usage is new to me.

Once again many thanks for your suggestion as I would not have thought of it, I will let you know what happens when I am out and about.

I can understand you... A phone with WLAN connection thinks that it has unlimited data volume... therefore I use a firewall app on my TomTom phone... usually with a whitelist where only TomTom and some other apps get permission to access WLAN... I use AF-Wall as firewall (my phone is rooted)... but in case your phone is not rooted there are also free of charge firewalls out there that don't need root... if my phone was not rooted I would try this firewall: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

In fact, I have automated both phones via 'Tasker', incl. Firewall (de)activating:
When I switch on my bluetooth loudspeaker in the car the following happens:
My usual phone starts Tethering, let's say WLAN name 'Tetherxyz'
    My TomTom phone launches TomTom
Once the TomTom phone is connected to Tetherxyz the firewall get's automatically activated (because the name is 'Tetherxyz')
    and so on....

Thanks for that, my phone is not currently rooted as I have 3 months left on my S4 warranty and don't wish to trip the knox fuse, just in case. I will check out your firewall link a.s.a.p.
