I solved the install of TomTom on my Galaxy Tab4 7 inches with KitKat 4.4.2 on SD card likes this:

    1-install TomTom on internal memory
2-Start it to verify it is OK
3-Install "FolderMount" available on the play store
4-Add a pair between the folder TomTom on internal and a folder on SD card.
    5-Validate and reboot
6-After reboot the transfer of the file iniciate
7-When finish, add a spindle in the "FolderMount" app. He must became green.
8-Start TomTom normally: no change for the user but the TomTom app is on the SD card !

    Enjoy

I will try FolderMount, seems like a great tool for my android device which only has a 2GB internal SD storage.

Copy your map to internal memory or external sd

    4.4.2+ Android

    tomtom/com.tomtom.europe/files/files/

    lower than 4.4.2- Android

    tomtom/com.tomtom.europe/files/

connect all internet off and put flight mode on then Install APK

Open tomtom first time in flight mode!

On JellyBeen, path for Internal and External SD Card is the same :

    tomtom / com.tomtom.your country / files

Copy the complete tomtom folder in the External Sd Card root (or Internal Memory root.)

Install .Apk, quit from installer and restart your device. Start the software.

If it doesn't work, recopy again .METADATA.XML file into >> com.tomtom.your country folder << and restart software.

If you don't see .METADATA.XML file, you need to enable the viewing of hidden files......

    Don't use a PC with MAC O.S....

Data or wi-fi connection open or closed ..... makes no difference.....it works in any case !

Tomtom works from 2.2 Android S.O....then the low resolution has nothing to do.

The metadata.xml is present in com.tomtom.your country folder ??
You're using a PC with O.S. MAC ?? If yes, no good !

The TomTom Navigation app for Android is compatible with Android smartphones (Android version 2.2 or higher) which have screen resolutions from WVGA (800 x 480) to WXGA (1920 x 1080).

Tablet support: the app now also runs on the Google Nexus 7 and other tablets with a screen resolution between 800 x 480 pixels and 1920 x 1080 pixels. Please note that the screen layouts may differ on some devices, especially on larger tablets.

TomTom will add compatibility for higher screen resolutions in future releases.

The app requires 215 MB to 3.7 GB of free space, depending on the size of the app’s associated map.
