cityxplorer TTG not been able to connect to TomTom for a few days?

I recently wiped an Android head unit device that had TTG 1.17.1 installed. I reinstalled TTG (tried from the Play store and the local .apk), however I get the error "can't connect to tomtom try again later". This has been the same for a few days. I also have a Samsung S6 edge that has been wiped and I tried the same on this - same result.
I have another phone and a Samsung tablet both with working installations of TTG 1.17.1 and the UK map. On both of these trying to download a new map or results in the error "Unable to show maps. Check your Internet connection then try again". Similar error when trying to download voices - "Unable to show voices. Check your Internet connection then try again".
I did some packet captures and can see the devices trying to connect to "lcms.services.tomtom.com". If I try to connect [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] from a PC I get "HTTP 410 Gone'. So is there an issue with the TomTom servers or has there been a change in how things are accessed?

Is nobody else seeing this behaviour? I get the feeling all my Android devices have been blacklisted by TomTom somehow?
I am getting a replacement Android phone in a few days and I suspect TomTom won't be on the list of applications I can reinstall - or at least get working?

Did you do a proper installation of the app???
With the copy of a complete folder and after de-installation of the market version, the complete copy back of that folder?

And did you do a proper search on this forum?
Maybe have a look at 13 pages(!!) [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]...

    And please stop

The 13 pages refer to the older TomTom app, not the current one. I am fairly confident I can get the older TomTom Navigation 1.4 working. I don't want that and this thread isn't referring to that. I am having an issue with TomTom Go or TomTom GPS Navigation and Traffic as it is now called.
Installing the Play Store version does not normally require any trickery - it should just install and let me download a map. It then should allow 50 miles of free use per month. I have installed TomTom Go many (many..) times; both the Play Store version and the 'other' one and I have never had any real issues getting it to work. For the last few days it just doesn't work anymore because the connection to the TomTom servers isn't working.
