Hello to everybody , I hope you are well .
I need help with an issue .
I bought a map wich is a TOPO with DEM and autorouting function , but I only want the DEM layer .
Is any way to extract DEM layer and make only a map of it .
Thank you very much four your help
Martin
I think because a commercial TOPO map in 1:25.000 or 50.000 scale has another DEM-resolution than the seperat Nüvi/Zumo-files. I would be nice to have a tool to extract this DEM's from Garmin and use it also in other programs (Global mapper, QuoVadis, ArcGIS,...).
Somebody here ( [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] ) did a great job and reworked the SRTM data for special areas to good DEM's.
Garmin DEM served no other purpose than eye-candy*, while TOPO has a purpose. Because the majority of DEM are used for eye-candy, there is no need to use it at "hi-res" scale. Building DEM and/or TOPO is another story.
* I'm sure someone will want to use it for something else

Do not PM me with questions. That's what a forum is for.
Dear people: The point is that DEM data contained on TOPO maps have much more resolution that single DEM maps.
However I need to extract DEM data because I need to use it as background ,combined with a Routable map (TOPO DOESN´T HAVE COVERAGE) .So I need to extract it .Thank you very much again.Martin
1. As I said, DEM are for eye-candy. You don't need "more resolution." Why not use the DEM already created by Garmin.
2. You CAN build your own DEM (at various resolutions and fixing holes in SRTM data)
3. Extracting DEM from copyright product (especially from Garmin) and using it for something else is "publicly" forbidden*. Take your complains to Garmin.
* So even if such tool is available, it won't be posted

First of all : "As I said, DEM are for eye-candy. You don't need "more resolution" Thats your opinion not mine
Second: "Extracting DEM from copyright product (especially from Garmin) and using it for something else is "publicly" forbidden " I never said that it was a GARMIn map so , what you are saying is WRONG .
I never talked about breaking a copyrighted map , I wanted to work with a FREE map that I found on internet .
So I will continue searching Thanks a lot
Yes , first I bought a map , wich is protected by law, after that I continued searching and I found a FREE map with better resolution and it was totally FREE .
So , don´t worry about EYE-CANDY or not .I will continue searching for help , obviusly not yours.Thank you again Martin
