    Android Block Sygic Online activity

    Hi guys,

I noticed most instructions tell us not to use Sygic whilst online. I accidentally left my wifi connected when opening Sygic last night, and dam, padlocks appeared on some of the features!

What I have done is created a hosts file that will block all the outgoing data to Sygic (this took a lot of packet sniffing to see all the servers sygic would connect to when launching there's 200+ entries). With this, you can be online and you will not lose access to any patched features. Keep in mind you will also have no access to any online features, such as traffic, map downloads/updates, voice downloads etc.

Do not use this if you have a purchased version of sygic!

For fun I have also bundled this list with the awesome (MoaAB) Mother of All AD-BLOCKING list.

You have two files, choose 1 and copy it to /etc/ (check the current permissions and be sure to duplicate them to the new file.
    sygic only: blocks sygic servers
sygic with adblocking: blocks sygic and 368000 known advertising urls

you will need ROOT access to do so. Also reboot for it to take effect.

Now you have every ad blocked, and Sygic blocked from Internet access without requiring any additional applications to be running and consuming resources!

    flamer,

If you have a rooted phone or tablet and then you can add a firewall.

Then you can block Sygic altogether or any app from ever accessing the internet.

I use avast! Mobile Security and in it's setup you can block any program from going into the internet.

agreed, I was using droidwall for testing this very issue. But a few factors I found

    1) as these programs use the linux iptables, sometimes the settings do not survive a reboot, or they do require a reboot to take effect, sopme random times the desired settings were applied but worked in the opposite direction they should have. (blocking aps that shouldn't be blocked, allowing apps that should be blocked)
    2) lollipop has a lot of new security features and performance management functions, I found my droidwall and adblocker being stopped by the OS once they were moved to the background, stopping their effect which was a pain!
    3) these processes consume phone resources
    4) a host file will never fail to run/take effect as its part of the system on bootup.

But thanks for your comments, I agree this is another valid solution!

    @ FLAMER

......but I don't understand the problem.
If the padlocks have appeared to traffic and speedcam online services, it is totally normal. They are paid services.
If the padlocks have appeared for Blackbox and Hud, just change the CONTENT.INFO......

I always used Sygic (and not just me) with open data connection, and I never had any problems (sometimes I changed only the content).

I am not very happy with this new UI, but saying that if you go to the upper left hand corner and click in there and pick a location you want to see on the map it will then show you the map.

You might have to do a complete reboot and then try it.

It could take a couple of tries.

I do not know what countries you have loaded. If the the one you are using is not working then try another country.

If that works then re download the country you are having problems with.

I've already tried a couple of things to get rid of this black screen problem but I couldn't find any solution yet.

No matter if I download a sygic folder from here and my map with mapdownloader, or I just download sygic from play and the map with the app, and just crack it. The same happens after the second start of sygic. Also tried to reinstall 15.3.4 and update it with the patched apk but, it ends the same freezing black screen.

I think Sygic doesn't closes properly after it asks Do you really want to exit from sygic?.. When I force close it from app manager, it starts without long loading time and this black sceen bug

Well the instructions say to not enable data when using sygic!! I had HUD and blackbox available then they disappeared again which would mean the app is checking a licensing server and killing the features. If you don't need it then no issues don't use it. But I can guarantee you when you open sygic its going out to the sygic licensing server and I have pcap files to prove it

I find HUD and Blackbox the biggest waste they came up with.

Not even the professional stand alone HUD units are selling.

As for the so called block box. You are better off getting a stand alone unit.
There are many good ones on the market and do not cost much.

Sticking your phone on the windscreen for hours is not the best thing for it.
There is to much heat from the sun hitting it.
    You can ruin your phone.

Another thing that is a waste is 3D buildings.
I do not need to look at my phone to see if the building in front of me is the same as what is on my phone.

I have better things to do while I am driving.

You only need to know how to get from point A to Point B nothing more.

I have turned off all 3 things and deleted the HUD folder.
And removed them from my content.info

Sygic runs a lot better with out them.

I also keep wifi enabled while using sygic, and had no problem with licensing untill now. But replacing the content.info file solved the premium hud blackbox problem. If you wish I can send it to you to try it out with wifi on.

Chambers, the only problem with hud is that it only useable at night. At daylight you cant see sh.t on the cars windscreen.
