    When I try, I get this result:

    $ tar xvf content.info.tar
    tar: This does not look like a tar archive
    tar: Skipping to next header
    tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

    I also notice there is a difference in size between the uploaded and the downloaded file:

    Original uploaded file and size:
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 kees users 10240 May 2 23:51 content.info.tar

    The downloaded fileSIZE is 26603!
    $ ls -al | grep content.info.tar
    -rw-r--r-- 1 kees users 26603 May 3 14:29 content.info.tar
    When this file is unpacked with winrar on Windows: no problem, it opens.

    When doing the same thing with the Gavitex service, I get a normal download, which can be unpacked by "tar".

    $ wget [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    2015-05-03 14:35:42 (251 KB/s) - 'content.info.tar' saved [10240/10240]

    $ ls -al | grep content.info.tar
    -rw-r--r-- 1 kees users 10240 May 2 23:51 content.info.tar

    $ tar xvf content.info.tar
    content.info/
    content.info/HERE-2014.09/
    content.info/HERE-2014.09/content.info
    content.info/TomTom-2014.09/
    content.info/TomTom-2014.09/content.info

    This is quite silly. :-)
    It looks like some Upload providers "DO" something with the files while downloading.
    You are right, something happened to the file because when i downloaded it, i own first/original one:

    ls -al | grep content.info.tar
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 attila attila 10240 mag 2 14:54 content.info.tar
    I can open the 10 kB version with fileroller, last version seems corrupted an oversized.
    Strange

    Thanks for your feedback.
    I tested a bit further: the same thing happens with files downloaded from Speedyshare and 4Shared.
    They are all biger in size than the original and cannot be unpacked with "tar".
    At some other Upload services it is not even possible to get a direct link to the file.

    Seems for now that I can only use Gavitex, which makes an clear exception to the others.

    Are you able to wget this file and unpack it with tar?
    I 'd very much like to know if that works:

    $ wget [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    $ tar xvf content.info.tar

    If not, I 've got to think of something else.

    Incorrect escaping of . for following lines, should be \. not .\

    Hi, I'm new at linux and running on mint 17. When I try to run downloader 0.93a I get "sygic map ... is not a debian package". How can I correct this error?

    Hello Ressoneca, welcome to the Linux clan at GPSPower.
    Now about your problem: Yes, the script is not a debian package. It is a bash-script and this is not an error.
    How do you run the MapDownloaderscript exactly?
    Do you run it from a terminal, or do you execute the script from some tool in the Graphic User Environment (desktop)?
    Did you read the information part inside the script?

    Manual

    This is the Sygic Mapdownloader for Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, MacOS and
    other UNIX based operating systems. To make it work for your OS, adjust the
    PATH for bash, wget, tee, tar, rm, awk and sleep binaries.
    This script is not userfriendly, you 'll have to find out some things
    yourself :-). Make it executable with 'chmod 755 <filename>'
    Execute like './Sygic-MapDownloader-World-v-0.8.sh'

    Best regards
