    Default HERE or Tom-Tom

Not a real geek, just a standard user looking for maps updates. A question though: I am using Sygic v13.4.2 and heard Navtec maps are the best. I was only able to download Tom-Tom maps for 2016 Q1, v9.0 as v9.1 wont work. Moreover I lost the building figures and noticed that Tom Tom maps 2016 Q1 are less good than NT 2014.09. Any comment ?

    Navteq new name is Here

About your question, both companies have web pages into the internet. Visit them and compare by yourself at map points you know better than everyone, which company's map is better than the other.

    TomTom vs Here Maps.

Most of the talk has been of using locally these maps.

Now we all know the area we live in within a 50km radius.

We all know where our friends and family live.

We all know where the stores we shop in are.

You do not need TomTom or Here maps to tell you that.

So the question is how well do I know the roads you want to travel on for

the next vacation or business trip.

Be it 200km away or to the next country or in the US the next state.

Most if not everyone has no idea what road or highway to take.
We turn on the GPS app and let it calculate the route.
Add the time of day or the day we pick to drive.
It looks at the traffic and what road construction is going on.

It does not know of any car or truck crash in most cases right away.

So you will get updates as you drive along. It then will make an adjustment as to what road to change to.
Or should I get off the highway and take a land road.

Now you are 150km from home and you have to trust your GPS app to make the correct decision for you.

There is no way you can say that TomTom or Here maps are better at this point.

Even if you take the trip 2 weeks later and try to compare one map company against another.

It will not come out the same.

Reason the same traffic or road construction will in most cases not be the same.
Either the road construction is completed or there is a new car accident some were on your route.

I have been traveling to this on spot for years now on one of my vacations.
I go through 3 countries each time.

Every time it takes me a different way some were along the route. I use my traffic function all the time.

The GPS has taken almost the same amount of time from point A to point B to drive.
The distance has been + or with in 10 km of each trip.

I have always just let the GPS do its thing and I do the driving. If it tells me to take this exit or that exit I do it.

I always get to were I want to be each time. What roads it tell me to take is no real big deal. I do not have time to look at the trees or building as I am driving.
My eyes are on the road.

So saying TomTom or Here maps are better in my town is a lot if hot air.
You do not use GPS to go get gas for you car when the station is down the road from you.

Yes you know all the different roads you can take were you live.
But the GPS will not take that in when it calculate you wanting to go to the store to pick up some food for the weekend.

First pic is with TomTom maps, second - with HERE maps. Judge by yourself:

    @ Nx4,

Well if you are going to show examples at least so them at the same depth.

Not one 100M and one 250M.

Plus when using TomTom or Here:

You put an address in and drive does it get you to where you want???

That is the most important thing.
