    OK, thanks both of you.
    1. I've now installed CCleaner (free edition) which seems pretty good (may even craque or buy the upgrade later)
    2. I couldn't even see/find ASC in my Task Manager/startup list (which is actually empty) but CCleaner did let me remove it from startup so that's one thing done and I'm now seriously thinking about uninstalling ASC completely.
    3. It will be interesting to see what real advantages there will be with the WD August Update...we shall see.
    4. I've downloaded but not yet installed windows 10 Firewall Control free version and also CrytoPrevent so may have a play with them too.
    5. Eh....not got there yet!

Thanks again & if you think of anything more I should be aware of (not just nice-to-have add-ons) then please let me know

    Ehhh .... 6?
Did you keep a clone of your Win 7 Dave? Or even an image? If so be a dear and pop it into a new partition or separate drive and multiboot. I'd be interested to see if an image restored to another location works the same as a clone to let you keep your 'security blanket Win 7'.

5a. Just installed windows 10 Firewall Control but, a bit like the old zonealarm, it was blocking too much stuff so I've uninstalled it again!
5b. Also now installed CrytoPrevent. Is it just an "install & forget" so I just ignore it & assume it's running in the background?
    6. I have a macrium image of Win 7 on a separate hard drive but my C drive on my PC is only 300Gb & currently has around 120Gb free. I have previously played with partitions etc but got a bit lost so don't want to try that again..sorry.

5a: Yep. It is a bit like that.
5b: Yep again. It's as sneaky as the goddam ransomware loaders it was made to cripple. But don't ignore it, remember to update it manually occasionally or buy the premium pack @ $15 US.
6: Pussy! .... sorry, Meerpussy! Can't you find another old HDD to take 7? Or use EaseUS or MiniTools partition manager, they're like point n shoot easy.

5a. It gives a simple interface to the embedded Windows native firewall that's not so simple to configure.
It blocks programs you don't want to allow, but it learns and after few hours you won't hear from it anymore.
I use it to block Garmin spying in my pc. Basecamp, Express etc.
If you don't need it, don't use it lol

    Jeez, my head's hurting!

    7. What have I done (wrong) that most but not all my usual/favorite websites/forums etc seem to lose my login details every time I restart my PC which I'm doing quite often with try new things/settings etc?
EDIT:- It's every time I close my browser I lose my login details!!!

Is it something I've set wrongly in CCleaner (can't think what) or something different??
    8. Is it worth me continuing with Revo Uninstaller when I already have IObit Uninstaller and CCleaner which both seem to do the job?
    9. Where are my paracetamol?

I know, questions, questions; I'm sorry

If you have set CCleaner to delete cookies.... check after browsing sites CCleaner/Options/Cookie and save the ones you want to keep when it cleans.
    Revo is the best IMHO.

Thanks Caty, forgot about cookies, now OK again. I also forgot/didn't realise that when it does something like clean cookies in Chrome it will do it for SRWare Iron and Slimjet too
I too like Revo & find it very efficient but can't find a serial code/craque/license around anywhere for the latest Pro version 3.1.6 (I had one for 3.1.4 which worked perfectly) but deleted it and tried to start again with 3.1.6!!

I use Revo free version, it's enough for me, except very few programs I bought, I try to use opensource and free programs and I must say I feel fine with them, there is always a good alternative to everything and most of the time lighter too.

PS I wonder why you keep 3 Chromium browsers in you pc, keep one and may be add a light FF version.
    for example:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
    or
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
I prefer Waterfox, but it's a matter of taste
