no, you cant see IMGs in mapsource but you can transform (import) an IMG into mapsource version with this procedure
you need are GMapTool and cgpsmapper.exe
    1. Run the GMapTool.exe
    2. Hit "Add Files" and add the "gmapprom.img" file
2.5. Under the "options" tab tell it the location of cgpsmapper.exe
    3. Click on "Split" at the top.
    4. Select the directory where you want to save it
    5. Make sure that "Create" is set to "files for mapsource"
    6. Make sure there is a tick in "compile map preview"
    7. Mapset name is "xxx"
    8. Tick "set mapset FID"
    9. FID is xxxx and PID is x
    10. Click on "split all".
    11. Wait until it is done, should take a couple of minutes.
    12. Close GmapTool.exe
    13. Open the directory from step 4.
    14. Locate install.bat and run it.
    15. That should be all you need to do to install your map into mapsource.

The routable version of cgpsmapper should allow a gmapsupp.img to be routable in mapsource.

I have done exactly like you said and I still don't have the find places option enabled in mapsource. I have a mapsource map that has the find places option enabled, I export that to a gmapsupp.img file,I uninstallthat map from mapsource, I import it back in mapsource from the created gmapsupp.img file using gmaptool 0.4.8.2154B, cgpsmapper 0.98c routable and the steps from your guide, and when I try the find places it is not there anymore. So somewhere that functionality is lost. Do you have any ideea what to try?

I also tried to make a route with route tool in this map that has the find places menu disabled and I succeded. And this works even on the maps imported with the freeware(non routable i presume) version of cgpsmapper. Now I am confused what that "routable" from cgpsmapper means...

connect your gps device via usb --first back up your previous map on your pc
if it's an unlocked IMG put it in your device garmin folder and rename it gmapsupp.img if it's the same name of your preloaded map rename it gmapsup2.img ,or if your preloaded is named gmapprom.img call the new one gmapprom1.img

The routable version of cgpsmapper should allow a gmapsupp.img to be routable in mapsource.
If the gmapsupp.img that is being used is routable as is, is the routable version of cGPSmapper still needed when the gmapsupp.img is installed into mapsource, for the map to be routable in MapSource using the above procedure? It seems to me that it is only needed when you are making map files from scratch and not when using a gmapsupp.img map file that is already routable.

The reason I say this is because I've done the above steps and used the latest cGPSmapper v0100 Free version to install GMAPSUPP.IMG files to MapSource. I can still search the map for POI's and build routes using the free version. Can anybody confirm that this is true, or am I missing something?
