Hi, just wondering I'm about to purchase a non Garmin G2 mapset on a SD card of Inland lakes in my country for use on any Garmin units that can except a Sd card(or Garmin Data Card if the unit requires), but theise maps will still be locked and copy protected by the Chart developers.
I have absolutely no problem with the purchase of theise maps as I feel the Chart developers have put a lot of time and effort into their development, but I do have issues with not being able to backup the SD, as I'm always erasing Sd cards by mistake, having 2 digital cameras floating about.
How do I back up the contents of the Sd card anyway, as the mapset developers FAQ's indicate that if you overwrite the sd card by mistake, there is a fee for reprogramming onto the Sd card.
The Mapset developers require the unit ID before they will send the SD card to me.
The mapsets are not compatible with mapsource, homeport or nroute (probably intentionally) & the charts are designed and offered only to run on Garmin marine GPS plotters, and not PC software. Hence the charts can only be used along with the basemap installed on the gps unit. I would like to have a backup of the Sd and mabey experiment in merging with other Garmin mapsets.
Is there a quick way to backup the Sd card despite the copy protection?

    Hi! --errm

I'm a total noob at this, but, from what I understand, to install a map via SD card I can either use an unlocked version or get a locked version and do some weird process so it works with my GPS unit (and then rename it to a certain filename), is this correct?
Ok, now, here's what's bugging me. Two things, actually.
    1. How do I install cityXplorer? (Couldn't find this anywhere, really)
    2. How do I install 3D buildings? The same as the above?
    3. Do I need to in some way combine cityXplorer with my City Navigator, for instance?

Thanks in advance for being patient with a noob. And, caty (I'm sure you're the one who's answering this), thank you very much! =)
PS: I'm not lazy, I'm willing to learn. Tutorials are just fine (as long as I understand them, of course, lol), I don't expect you to waste your time with noobs.
PPS: Ah! If it's of any help (real noob here, remember?), I have Garmin nüvi 1300.

cityXplorer and City nav can coexist but you must deselect one when using-coz they'r covering the same region-
cityXplorer maps are IMGs- you must unlock them ,transfer in your map folder and add the map unlock file to abilitate pedestrian fearures -
    for 3D build. read here
