Your intended 3598LMT-D might be 'new' in the sense of unused, but 35x7/35x8 were released originally in 2013. Your question is answered in P#4 here:

So, because 35x7/8 have "MSV: --- | GSV: Yes" as said above you don't need to patch the firmware >V5.10 and can continue to use the latest version of gimgunlock UNLESS as also said MSV protection is added in future fw updates.

What do you think about "nuvi 2598 LMTHD"?(I do not have the firmware version) unlock via "gimgunlock+MapSigPatch" or or it will need to patch. The device is still on the way, and I am more doubtful...

    thanks

    @Dmitry_2011
Please check the first several posts of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and look at the FW_list.txt available there behind the spoiler in initial post. 2xx7/8 with HWID 2077 has 'MSV: Yes | GSV: Yes' so needs patch via RGN file initially. HWID 1582 has 'MSV: --- | GVS: Yes' so can be patched if you need to use Unicode maps. Easy to find that, Post #1 and #4 in patcher thread, or initial post here.

No more requests here please for information freely available in the other thread. Seek it there and if you have a genuine question about patching then post in the patcher thread and not in here.

Brilliant guys. I needed to put OzTopo V8 onto a bigger card so that I could fit my other maps on with it. Nothing has worked until now. Ran this on the files and it worked flawlessly. Now on both my Nuvi 55 and 65.

    Hello

It works on nuvi 2559LM with 2016.30 NTU maps after patching fw 8.20 with Universal Firmware Patcher for Protected Garmin Devices v.1.10 and unlocking with gimgunlock+MapSigPatch.

    Great work. Thanks

Default GPSMAP 64s map installation issues

My first post here, regarding the Garmin GPSMAP 64s I bought today; Ive been using a Tomtom unit for a long time before so Im new to the Garmin world.

Ive installed the latest FW and I currently try to make an image file of the Japan Topo map (V5 2012) work on my new unit. A couple of things:

    1. Using GMapTool and CGPSMapper I can visualize the map in BaseCamp. So far so good.
    2. When I copy the img file into the Garmin folder of the MicroSD, the unit ignores the file although its claimed to have been unlocked beforehand.
    3. Using gimgunlock-0.03+MapSigPatch, there was no improvement. Small wonder: the verbose-text-out was saying Skipping plain subfile xxx for all files (types .TRE .NET .NOD .LBL .RGN) so it made no changes to that img file. Protected Garmin file toolkit_2254 is coherent with that: no changes are needed although it complains about .TRE files having an unknown .TRE header whatever.
    4. While knowing its not a recommended method I tried to upload this same map via BaseCamp. Hallelujah, that works (using the patched BaseCamp executable). Im aware of the disadvantages of doing it this way though: done quite some reading here (thanks all).

Wondering what Im doing wrong though. Incidentally, theres a file appearing called ID.txt on the MicroSD, with a different code inside each time I try to do something.
Any suggestions? Dont call me an ignorant, I already know :-(

Basecamp creates a file named ID.TXT each time USB memories are connected to the computer One ID.TXT is written inside the device and another ID.TXT is written into each USB memory connected to the PC.
This is to help to keep track of cached data from the card/device, so Basecamp doesn't have to reread the whole thing every time it is connected.

Worked with TopoDrive 2015 and Astro 220 on Windows 7. Excellent!
