Use "Drag-and-Drop" technique as the simplest way to use the gimgunlock application. Remember that the IMG-file is unlocked in-place (the unlocked file replaces the original file). If you want to keep the original locked file as a backup you should work with a copy.

One example where "GBDiscoverer50K_All.img" would be unlocked by drag-and-drop to the "gimgunlock.exe" application:

To unlock maps using Mapset Unlocker and Garmin Image Unlock:

    1. Install [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
    2. Download the desired Garmin map set and install. If downloading the map set direct from Garmin, use the option 2 installer and under "Install Options" select "Install To Computer Only".
    3. Download this [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Copy it into the map set's Product 1 directory (e.g C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Maps\City Navigator North America 2012.10.gmap\Product1).
    4. Drag the .TDB file located in the Product1 folder and drop on top of the Mapset Unlocker executable.
    5. Run MapInstall and transfer the maps to the GPS.
    6. Download [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
    7. Drag the .IMG file and drop on top of the Garmin Image Unlock executable.
    8. Your maps are unlocked.

This step-by-step eliminates the need for the MapInstall patch that allows map transfers to any drive, not just the GPS or its SD/MicroSD card. If the reader wishes to use said patch, it may be downloaded from the link in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] of my blog.

NOTE: I will add this entry to my blog (as part 2) as soon as possible, but it seems I cannot do so right now since the site seems to be confused and thinks I don't have permission to create a blog.

    Hi,

I do not know what is happening, but the decompressed file (using 7-Zip) is rubbish, no .exe file. Do I do something wrong?

Norton deleted the file (WS.Reputation.1 threat).
Other users having this problem : it's a false positive!
I put it out of quarantine and it works like a charm (and my pc, for the moment, too)!
