There was a scare like this a couple of months ago where everyone thought Garmin had figured out a new protection scheme for the maps, but it turned out it was just the new firmware that was faulty. When Garmin fixed the firmware, Gimgunlock started to work again to unlock the maps.

Maybe it's the same situation. Let's hope so anyway.....

Nop, on GPSMAP 64, GPSMAP 62.... is CN locked in two FW update if this is FW bug, why Garmin still don't remove or repair FW but he release new update with same " bug " ?
Look here when is released FW 2.40 and when FW 2.50 and please tell me why they don't repair if this is bug?

    Hi lolypop000,

I am far from being an expert and can't be too much help in figuring this out.

Maybe the Author of Gimgunlock can provide some insight on why Gimgunlock won't unlock the CN on the GPSMAP62 & 64.

Maybe it could be defeated by firmware patch ?

Finding the changes made in the fw may be a little like finding a needle in a haystack. Garmin's software wranglers aren't so likely to have allowed for an easy patch methinks. Anyway, too big for me and maybe even a challenge for the Navigation software experts? [that'll get 'em moving dasil, you'll see ]

SomeOne has spoken in the past about "defeating GMA protection" so maybe it's feasible.

The Best solution is to only buy devices with LM.

Garmin should sell a "World Nuvi" so you can have LM for all the countries. "Wishful Thinking"

Guys, I'm sorry, but I'm not participating in breaking this, for some important reasons.

No, Neil, I'm not affiliated with Garmin. There are many talented programmers in Garmin, I guess. At least they were able to implement the GMA protection and the GCD signing (and without my help, lol
The main reason is that I find breaking this new protection kinda not ethical.
