    Take a waypoint that you are sure is located on the map you want to look at. Select that waypoint en choose Show On Map (or similar I have a Garmin mapGPS 60CSx so don't know what it is on a eTrex 30). Then zoom in, until you see the map.

    If you do not have a waypoint handy, you can choose a waypoint in Google Earth, note the coordinates and put in the coordinates in your eTrex 30.

    Hey guys, new to the forums and have done a few hours searching and cruising around. To start I have a Garmin GPSMap 4208 that I want to use the G2 Vision SWFL with, I know the map ID is 487 etc, have yet to find my card ID but is any of this matter with this particular unlocker? I seemed to be reading older posts, but with this do you even need card ID etc since my .img file has already been unlocked? That being said if im on the right path that is do all I need is the unlocked .img and im good to place it in my 4208 or should I still have the .unl with the right info in it? Hopefully im not completely lost, I went to my boat and tried to get my card ID off my garmin but no go with my type of garmin even putting it into test mode and I've tried the programs here and I just get a blank spot where the ID should be.... Hope to get some feedback ill keep searching after this post though

    Drag&drop the gmapsupp.img in Gimgunlocker.
    Copy the unlocked gmapsupp.img in a Garmin folder in SD. No .unl is needed.

    @Spearman
    Garmin Image Unlocker is not at all like the JetMouse key generator. This unlocker works directly on the map/chart image to remove the gma protection that would otherwise show an 'Unable to Authenticate' message displayed with MID/FID of 2200 or higher on units with recent fw, even if a valid unlock file was present. It also unlocks the image file fully so it can be used in any unit or any sd card. Therefore, no unit or card id is required with this.

    Have a good read here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and particularly here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. All will be clearer.

    By the way, the quickest way to find the CID is to borrow a Nuvi from someone or if you have a phone running GarminMobileXT you can get it too.

    EDIT: Goddamit Caty, ya musta beat me by a 'poofteenth'.... again!

    I would also like to add my thanks to the OP and all contributors...

    I bought an Approach G5 in the States recently not realising it only had North and latin America maps loaded. However thanks to you Guy's I now have all the Euro maps installed.

    Can I please ask... Is it doing any harm (ie slowing down the system) to have North + Latin America + Europe, all loaded at the same time? In other words should I now remove and save the America maps to a HD?

    Cheers

    @zermattbusby
    In theory the actual operation of any unit shouldn't be affected by the amount of map data stored, but it will be slower loading the maps initially on startup. You can of course backup any unused maps along with corresponding gma and unl files if present, and delete them from the unit. Congrats on your first post, but it's more than a little OT here so any further questions not directly relating to gimgunlock would be best posted elsewhere. Welcome to Noeman.

    Bad cpu type in executable This is what i get when trying to unlock GMAPSUPP.IMG in gimgunlock 0.03 for mac any ideas? I'm running OSX 10.6.8
    Also if I do unlock these files will I be able to use them in my Garmin 541s ? or will they(do they) only work in Homeport?.
    I do have use of a PC if that is simpler? Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

    It probably would be simpler in the short term to just dl the windows version as you have access to a PC. Someone else maybe will reply to help with your mac spack ...

    Yep. This works on any locked garmin image file. CN, Topo, Bluecharts all types.

    .... or will they(do they) only work in Homeport?.
    You can view the image (even if still locked) in Homeport provided the MS Flag is set to '0' (zero) instead of '1'. To check it and change it use [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
