I can't seem to get gimgunlock to work with my Garmin Topo Premium-card.
When I run the gimgunlock.exe from command line gimgunlock.exe GMAPSUPP.IMG it ends with:
    Writing to file.
    can't open GMAPSUPP.IMG

I've tried to give 'Everybody' all permissions to GMAPSUPP.IMG and even ran the gimgunlock.exe as administrator.

    Any ideas?

Have you tried this? (from post n1)
    * Ease of use - to unlock, simply drag the image file over the icon of gimgunlock.exe, the dragged file will become unlocked. That's all.

What gimgunlock version are you using and on what Topo? In particular:

Are you using a version that can handle img files over 2GB?
Are you using the correct version for your OS?

If you are, then drop & drag should work fine. Otherwise more info needed.

It's possible that the write protection of the MicroSD card is activated, in which case the card is read-only. Try copying the file off the card first, then unlock it.

Thanks for all your quick replies, here's some more information.
    - Tried to drag'n drop
    - Using the Windows binaries on Windows Vista
    - Tried both v.0.01 and v.0.03 (the maps is only 250 MB)
    - The map is copied to the hard drive and I gave all users permission to read/write the .IMG-file
    - When I open the map in GMapTool and click on "Details" I find lots of places it says "Locked", I'm gussing you're not supposed to?

This is usually an OS or architecure mismatch issue. Do you happen to run OS X 10.6 or earlier? The executable is built on a 10.7 machine and may not support earlier version.

The best way to solve this issue is:
    1. Download Xcode
    2. Downlaod v0.03 source code and unzip
    3. Open a Terminal window
    4. cd to the directory of v0.03 source code
    5. Run the command below to compile your own executable

    Code:

Can you tell us exactly the map name so we can test the unlocker on it?
    thanks

Think I got it right now and as always it seems to be something with Windows and permissions.
I compiled gimgtools from source and ran the tool on my linux laptop.
First try it complained about the same as Windows did (can't open file GMAPSUPP.IMG) but then I gave the file write permissions and it worked like a charm.

I haven't tried the maps in my Garmin Edge yet, but when I open them in GMapTool it doesn't say locked anymore.
