Not so. NA 3597 will have an error when used with any similar Asian JCV file. No one is attacking syzygy, we are testing and reporting only. Hopefully syzygy can find why the patched file THGLB.jcv is causing the same crash and reboot error as original unpatched file in NA 3597, but not in NA 2xx5 for instance.

In the original JCV file there is a pointer at each junction view pointing to the single copyright warning picture. All the patch tool does is to replace that pointer with another one pointing to the actual junction view picture. Since the patched JCV file works in 2xx5 it proves that the patched pointer is correct and won't cause a crash.

On the other hand, the fact that even the original JCV file causes the crash is a proof that the 3597 NA firmware does not parse this JCV file (regardless original or patched) correctly, whereas the 2xx5 NA firmware does a fine job to parse. I suspect it crashes long before it reaches the original or patched pointer. Garmin needs to fix this bug, even though it may say the user is not supposed to use a Thai JCV file on a NA device.

I am looking to buy a 52LM at the current Christmas sales in Australia ($79), to replace my sometimes problematic 255W.

However I live, and mainly use the GPS in Thailand.

Will/should this tool work on the Oz unit?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

It should, I have an AU 50LM converted fully. It's a nuvi 52 in all but external appearance, same HWID and firmware. Would you like me to test it with the TH map and JCV file you'll be using? If so give me links to them.

Thanks for your quick response Neil.

I am currently using the unlocked CN Thailand NT 2013.30 Dual map on the 255W, (Tebuan's version @ post #11) found here : [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

However, that doesn't include a JCV file, so I guess I will also need to install Syzygy's patched file found at post #42 in the same thread - can you please confirm, as I haven't used JCVs before.

Thanks, and have a goodun for New Year.

Ok, i'll try soon. The EU/US/AU JCV files for the nuvi xx series have a different encryption to the other nuvi's jcv files and those files aren't interchangable. However i think it maybe is a similar encryption to the Asian files and therefore the TH jcv could be common to all Asian localized related nuvis using the same resolution including your 52 and other xx series. But i dunno ...

If anyone can enlighten me on whether there is or is not a specific jcv file for TH xx nuvis before i start i'd appreciate it.
