Yesterday I found out something very interesting.
If you use Garmin Express to do Backup and Restore you need to place the device in Mass Storage Mode.
I made the Backup in Mass Storage Mode and then Restored in MTP Mode (After Hard Reset)
My Trips were not restored. I then Changed to Mass Storage mode and Restored Again. This time the Trips were restored correctly.
It looks like it is safer not to use Garmin Express in MTP Mode.

it may be the preferred way, but I found it buggy. When I tried to update my Edge 800, I had a lot of difficulty. In the end I called support, and used the on line updater with no problem. Just my two cents worth!

The 4 screenshots on the Garmin blog look totally different than what I am seeing on my PC (Express v2.1.10).
    Any thoughts?

I believe that Garmin has made GE to fit the 'lowest common denominator'. I no longer use it and probably won't use it again, even for LM devices under warranty, unless they make some drastic changes such as the option to re-download maps. All it's major functions (Maps, fw, other softs, backups) can be done safer, albeit a little slower, by anyone with basic Garmin and computer knowledge using MU for LifeTime maps, manually updating fw, copy & paste for voices etc, and most importantly: manually we can do the all-important NV backup as well as a full files backup.

All experienced users here know the really big advantage to doing these tasks separately and manually rather than in one fell swoop with GE is that if you 'brick' your Nuvi doing only one task it's easier to find the problem. I don't even like using WebUpdater and would never even use it to update fw and other files at the same time unless to a 'fake nuvi' usb stick/card. But ppl who don't know how to do these tasks separately have no appreciation of the slight risks involved and wouldn't have a clue how to cure a bricked unit anyway. Hence my comment about 'lowest common denominator' i.e. noob users; time-poor/knowledge-poor users.

I see zakon's comment made earlier has gone to trash for inappropriate use of an 4-letter Anglo-Saxon word. I agree with his sentiments but not with his choice of language. Here's his post with a standard but somewhat mis-named 'Smiley' substituted for the naughty word:

I was about to edit his post to read as above with an admonishment to mind his language but i guess trashing sends a much stronger message than my intended one....... (it's not what you say, but how you say it!).

I think GE is for beginer or people who are not familiar whit PC or tech. at all . But all of us here at NEOMAN know other ways ,not simple but more effective to do the job . So GE is OK for some one like my father in law .
