Garmin should start again the development of MapUpdater. If the user has WebUpdater & MapUpdater doesn't need anything else, best tools ever.

Call me cynical, but i believe they are only keeping WU & MU because older non-MSM devices cannot be updated with GE. I reckon that they may even make new devices incompatible with WU & MU to force the exclusive use of GE for them. If they [ever] shake all the bugs out of GE's blanket it'll happen pretty quick too. I really hope i'm wrong though, but i think MSM/MTP devices will be limited to GE sadly ....

This is the reason some of you cant install pc version:
"The option to install maps to the computer when performing a reinstall is not being offered at this time if the full coverage of mapping had previously been installed to the GPS device or a SD card."

Thank you for emailing Garmin Europe.
There is currently a bug in version 4.0.8.0 whereby mapping is not being re-installed and installed to a computer. This is being worked on.
PS: try to remove data from GE directory: AppData\Roaming\Garmin

How breathtakingly obtuse of them ..... And then to add insult to injury they make it sound as if the computer install option was removed on purpose, in which case it's breathtakingly arrogant:
"A request has been made to add this functionality back to Garmin Express but until then, if maps must be installed to the computer and this is not a first time update, ie a reinstall, an earlier version of Garmin Express (3.2.x) will need to be installed on the computer to do so."

And the beat goes on ........ 'If at first you don't succeed, then try, try again'.

I can't even get this one to run after install and now BC and MI won't run either. Registry corruption i suspect, could be coincidental and unrelated to GE v4.0.7.0 but maybe better not to update and just skip this version for now.

With the latest versions i always have to do a couple of attempts to install it successfuly. Using CCleaner and manually deleting G.E hidden folders is a must ...

Well if you have some time to spend enjoy reading these wonderful posts that x-trail found in Garmin's forums:
