Yes I did. GE recognize the "clear" card /without XML/ only if it is in unit slot, but not if it is in a PC card slot. If SD card has xml file on it, GE recognize it and in PC card slot.
The screenshot made above was made with SD card in PC slot, but with xml file.
Of course, during map installation process, if you explicitly mention to GE to use "clear" card, because of lack of free space - no problem - it use it, but not create a xml file.
It was discussed in the forum threads which files GE creates.

Yes of course, i'm sorry i wasn't clear in that question. I was asking if you have any problem using a 'bare' card in the unit of course [no card will ever update in a card reader using any Garmim updater software unless it has a valid GarminDevice.xml file on it].

Everytime I connect my nuvi 3490 to my PC Garmin Express detect it and indicate that i have "City Navigator Europe 2013.10" only! while I was having "City Navigator MENA 2013.20" and upgraded many times to MENA 2013.30, 2014.10, 2014.30. After that I replaced all img files to have only MENA 2014.30, but still Garmin Express indicates my nuvi has only Eorupe 2013.10, and it cannot detect or update my maps!

    Can you help me please

Login to Mygarmin page and check what you are entitled to update. There you'll find your maps codes.
Try [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], as dasilvarsa suggested.

In number yes, they sprout like mushrooms.
