to dasilvarsa: I connected the 1255 and run My Dashboard: "...you started actualisation of a map but did not finish, change to the map you have downloaded or download once more..." No more information....

One more observation: the Unit ID of the nüvis is not displayed in Garmin Express but the Unit ID in the unlock key matches to the nüvi

No, I never had lifetime maps.

And: this version of Garmin Express works with Dakota 20 and Oregon 200 too!

    How about some screen Shots.
Maybe Garmin Decided to give you and your Friends an Early Xmas Present.
Or maybe it's a major messup on their Servers.
Take advantage of it while you can.

Are you sure it's offering an LM update, not a 'one off'? I had a similar situation recently with a 1390 which i bought bricked. It had to be reformatted after cure fw, and of course had a few NV clearances along the way. I usually don't use GE but thought it's about time i did and thought i'd won the lottery when GE offered an update to AU Sensis 2014.20. But i'm sure it wasn't LM. I thought the unit had never had it's 'one off' map update since new, and because it was now reset to factory settings and never been connected to Garmin's servers, GE then offered the update. I accepted that as normal under the circumstances. Now it's just happened again with a 'sluggish' 760 with very old fw. Reset, flashed current fw with updater.exe, another reset so it worked fine. Then Express offered a free map update for it too. Surely couldn't have happened twice with 2 old devices that they'd never had their free one-off updates done when new ... maybe it is a bug.

So did you actually get offered LM or one-off fluorescent?

    GE is still crap.

I try new version of GE on XP sp3.
Run it and set to download maps only to PC and when i click install i get RunAs window ( on XP i see this window first time ).
I have Elevated installer error but map download with no problem, but then when map must install GE stuck.
I go again from start but this time i remove in RunAS window dot beside " Protect My Computer From Unauthorized Program Activity " and this time download and install map.

So GE is still crap and i delete it from PC, map updater is still the best solution for map download

Who knows loly, maybe in their rush to stop it offering map updates to non-qualified devices they might accidentally fix some other stuff too?

I don't think that GE is Crap as it is working fine for me on Win7 X64.

I think that GE has too many dependencies, It needs Microsoft .Net Framework amongst others that we don't know about. (Windows media Player ?)
The "old" programs were written in C Language and had less dependencies.

So the thinking here is !
Is it really a GE problem ?
Is the Problem on My Windows Computer ?
Is my Operating System too Old ?
Have All the Microsoft updates and Service Packs been done ?

It's easy to blame the Car, but if the Diesel is bad maybe we need to fix the Diesel.

If Garmin Servers believe that the device has never been used It will offer one time upgrade even after years.
A device could easily be in the box at the shop for a few years before it is sold.
I came across a distributor the other day that had quite a lot of brand new 1xxx for sale. (at a discounted rate of course).

That's all perfectly valid dasil, and the first line perhaps explains the 1390 as I initially thought and wrote about above. I didn't back that one up but i know what the map version was, 2012.20 [it was bricked in any case, so i simply formatted it]. So it could been the OEM map still on-board as far as Garmin was concerned and it was being validly offered the nuMap one-off update. I've confirmed it's not got LM and neither has the 760. I've now found from the 760's backup that it had V2009 on board, could be an OEM map also but i have a sneaking suspicion now i think about it that maybe Garmin wasn't even offering the nuMap guarantee back then with 7 series [not sure though]. And what about fluorescent's experience with his own 1255 and his friend's 1450? He knows the history of them so his report on them may be definitive as to whether this is a bug or just some weird co-incidences of old units never updated. Garmin's policy states that the upgrade guarantee is to be used within 3 months of the first sat lock and you must have registered it with them. So if a unit wasn't registered previously and is reset, who knows, nuMaps one-off might be honoured many, many years later and not just with dust-covered old stock sold off cheap?

    I'm tippin' it's a bug though .....

As for old OS, i'm running Win8_64, Win7_64 and WinXP_32, triple boot - 3 partitions. There are still heaps of XP machines around and I'm sure Garmin want it to run ok on much older hardware with XP os than my pc is speced too. The current version of GE performs ok for me on them all and is extremely fast but the earlier ones were a pain in the neck and had more bugs than a derro's blanket. Garmin seems to be getting GE in order, but if this is a bug it's going to cost them some map sales.
