Uncheck "read only" attribute for the tdb file or the whole folder and all files and "Access Denied" error will disappear...!!! Also check if you hace full access NTFS rigths for that folder.

    Hi,

this toolkit seems not working on CN NTU maps used on newest GPS like GPSMAP64; do you confirm ? Do you know other solution to use NTU maps on 64 gps ?

    Thanks Paolo

    Hi,

    Read post #20 here :

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

On 64, it works either with NTU topo maps (Topo Germany v7) or with CN NTU maps.

    Greetings.
Have copied CN Europe 2016.10 gmap folder to correct place on my C:\.
I am running PGFT 2.2.5.4 as administrator.
Have to use "Select an XML file..." button for the PGFT programme to find the Europe 2016.10 map.
I does not write 2016 when finding the map - it seems to write the 2015 map twice.
In order for the PGFT to see the 2016-10 map - I have to close down PGFT and run it again still as admin, now PGFT sees the 2016 map.
I mark the 2016 map (both sets a mark and click on it so it turns blue) then I click "Unlock selected TDB" - but the status says Locked afterwards.

BUT... when going into Basecamp - Basecamp reports the maps as Unlockable - so I guess it Works!?
I can use Basecamp and the map is unlocked...

    Am I doing something wrong?
Have done the same procedure with the 2015 and 2014 map back then - and it seems to Work fine (PGFT reports status of maps as Unlocked).

    -----

Update to the above post: When closing Down the PGFT and opening it Again (still as admin) the 2016.10 map is still reported in status as Locked.
I then selected the 2016.10 map and then clicked "Unlock All locked TDB" - and now PGFT reports the 2016.10 map as unlocked.

I do not know, if there is a small bug in PGFT that by mistake reports the map as locked - when Basecamp and Mapsource both reports the map as Unlockable.
But when using the "Unlock all Locked TDB" it seems to report correctly all maps Unlocked.

Should I just forget about it - or ???

There is a difference between a PC installed map [MapSource version] gmap folder being 'Unlocked' or 'Not lockable'. The status 'Unlocked' means it's only unlocked to use it in the Garmin software, any map .img file generated would still be 'locked' [unauthenticated] and unusable on a device unless it's then fully unlocked with an effective image unlocker, i.e. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. 'Not Lockable' status means that any generated .img is unlocked and usable on many devices [not all modern ones though] provided that the unlocking process is fully effective. PGFT hasn't been updated in that respect, so use [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

If a gmap folder has only the tdb file in the Product1 sub-folder unlocked, then it's status will be 'Unlocked'. If ALL tdb files are unlocked effectively then it's status will be 'Not lockable'. Read this for clarification: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. I prefer to only 'unlock', send to a suitable place on the PC using patched MapInstall, then treat the img with gimgunlock before finally moving it to the device. Even safer is to only use such unofficial unlocked maps on a media card inserted in the device, gimgunlock will unlock an image directly on a small SD without problems.

Thanks - but I am only talking about the PC installation, not creating img files for units.
Just wondering why the PGFT reported the Europe 2016.10 gmap folder still locked - when Basecamp was showing "Not lockable".

When I selected "Unloack all TDB" - it worked.
As far as I am reading you are mixing several other issues in over this issue - lets just stay clear, it is only the PC installation to get Basecamp running with the 2016.10 map.

I'm wasn't intentionally mixing in any other issues, merely trying to cover all bases as you're not the only one reading these posts and it simply wasn't clear to me initially what you are wanting to attain. It now appears that you don't wish to use BC/MI for creating an image file for use on a device. So you are only wanting to use 'the PC installation to get Basecamp running with the 2016.10 map' and nothing else clearly. Regardless, what i was trying to explain to you is that there's two [so called] 'unlocked' states of a PC installed map in BaseCamp. Clearly there's another state, the first original untreated state is 'Locked' and the map is of no real practical use other than for viewing. Then there is what's reported by BC as 'Unlocked' [but it's not fully unlocked really] where only the one tdb file in the Product1 folder [e.g CNEuroNTU_2016_10.tdb] is treated with an unlocker [PGFT in your case, or better still UnLock MapSource Directory as i suggested be used now] and then the map data can be used fully in BC [technically it's still 'locked' though, albeit partly]. The third and final state is 'Not Lockable' where the map data is fully treated and fully usable, even to the extend of creating an unlocked image file usable on many devices [but even though i can now absolutely see that you don't wish to do that, many other users might and probably do want to, so i'm over-explaining here as i did before before to be 100% clear and not with intention to confuse by 'mixing in other issues' as you said]. I hope you now understand fully both why i'm doing that and also why i suggest use of UnLock MapSource Directory rather than PGFT at present for any 'unlocking' of PC installed map data.

The so-called 'bug' [Locked in PGFT vs. Not lockable in BC] you're reporting in PGFT is quite inconsequential in comparison to the fact that it's not been updated lately by it's author [he hasn't [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for 18 months so is probably busy elsewhere]. It may even be indicative of PGFT's current ineffectiveness to 'fully unlock' because in recent time Garmin has added new protection to their mapping data, PGFT doesn't cope with that in it's present form. This is a great tool and i want to keep using it but it needs to be updated to be fully usable with map data now, hopefully marcocq will find the time to do so because i'm sure he has the capability to do so. But in the meantime, best advice is just use UnLock MapSource Directory for map data 'unlocking' and then there'll be no confusion as to what's 'Locked', 'Unlocked' or 'Not Lockable'.

Thanks - I do create the img file - but thinks I have covered that part correctly.
You now explained what I asked cleraly to me all the rest - thanks - really good.

Will try the Unlock Mapsource directory up untilver 5 as you suggested.
