Fantastic. I managed to split the map, import it into Mapsource and re-assemble it again including only the regions that are necessary.
Could somebody please suggest the best way to edit the IMG? What is the best way to edit, say, the mapset of Scandinavia? Suppose, I want to assemble the set of two maps---Sweden and Finland and then add the map of Latvia. What is the best way to do that? What I did is I extracted images from the Nordics' mapset, imported it into the Mapsource and selected the necessary countries from there. Then I prepared the final IMG for my device. I am afraid, I could miss something. For example, on the first trial I, for some reason, missed capitals --- Stockholm and Helsinki. I don't know how that happened, but when I finished selecting areas, I noticed that the capitals are missing. I it possible to specifically set which countries should be included in the mapset and which should not.

Thank you once again, fantastic tool!

Last but not least. Could you please point an article explaining all these TYP files, previews whatsoever?

The best way is always to use Mapsource and a Mapsource map original installation, to have all the map features search included-
    How to select maps? here

To send IMGs to your HD use a patched mapsource-
    To merge maps

TYP file describes how roads, footpaths, woods etc. must be displayed on Mapsource and the GPS

Thanks for helping! Is it possible to join several IMG file from various CityXplorers into a single one? If I specify something like C:/Garmin/CityXplorer/Mapset/CityXplorer as an output file and set CityXplorer as a mapset name, what do I get in effect? The IMG filesystem that contains all the CityXplorer maps? Or do I get some kind of base file that yet has to be processed by MapSource? Sorry if the question reads like a non-sense.

CityXplorer maps are made for new Garmin devices, no need to join maps in new devices, coz you can add them in your sd in Map folder: new devices support many maps with any name- No advantages in joining IMGs-
In older devices you can use CN or parts of it ; CityXplorer maps just add in new devices public transports and pedestrian mode ,not available in older devices-
