    3stars RGN_Tool - Utility to create/convert RGN/GCD

    RGN_Tool - Utility to create/convert RGN/GCD

    RGN_Tool - This program is an utility to manipulate Garmin RGN/GCD firmware files. It allows you to:

    •Convert GCD firmware files to RGN format;
    •Extract and save the individual firmware sections of RGN/GCD files to .bin files;
    •Overwrite HWID and SW Version of RGN/GCD;
    •Build an RGN file using different .bin files.

    For now, it is not possible to save to GCD files.

    How-To
    Well, it should be obvious. If not, do not use it.

    v0.87 changelog
    - Improved detection of pk_file66.zip for region 66

    Works great.
    Converted to SG/MAL FW, displays JCV in Singapore and Malaysia.
    So far haven't got Thai JCV to work, have to simulate a little bit more.

    Edit:
    When using the map from this Thread, [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], the JCV doesn't show up. Using the previous April release then JCV works in Thailand.

    Next test: India Firmware

    V0.27 now.
    It works for boot.bin + fw1_resources.bin + fw_all.bin --> out.rgn

    @tom1807
    My device 775T US (F/W Version4.0 ) --> 765 Sg/Mal (Firmware Version 2.1 ) has no problem with TSM 10.1 JCV.

    RGN_Tool V0.27 has no checksum feature--> System software fail in inventory page.
    This is pic from Nuvi775Tus 4.0 convert to TW 3.1 , but it works fine.

    I notice this point to turboccc and he will fix this in next version.

    and now I did checksum manually then merge with RGN_Tool., it works fine.

    RGN_Tool V0.30

    Copy from turboccc
    "History:

    - Major revamp of the code. Yes, this means new bugs.
    - Can handle up to 100 sections in GCD. Some pretty atypical sections/regions in file ChartplottersUpdatewithSDcard_20100916 for GPSMap 525. RGN_Tool can read 43 sections before getting lost.
    - Converts also encoded sections with XOR patterns
    - Region 0E is also written last when saving to RGN (as requested). No need to swap regions anymore.

    ToDo: Semi-automatic HWID/SWV extraction for some special section/region. I will make some special search algo to find the HWID and SW Version when it cannot be found automatically"
