I have a new Garmin GPSMAP 78S that I am trying to get to work with Bluechart Vision maps for western europe. The maps I have at the moment is VEU704L, VEU709L, VEU710L and VEU454S. I have tried using the unlocker in combination with my GPS ID number, and to make the gmapsupp.unl file, but the GPS unit still says "failed to unlock maps".
So what I've done: I have downloaded the maps which is called gmapsupp.img (small caps). I then put the map series number (e.g. 314) and GPS ID number into the unlocker to generate a code, which I paste into notepad and with having no additional characters or spaces I save as gmapsupp.unl (small caps). I then copy both files to the garmin folder on my GPS unit (it has 1.7GB internal memory).
I have ordered a 2GB micro SD card, but it has not yet arrived, so if it is possibly easier to do this from micro SD, then I can try that.
Please help me! What am I doing wrong? Maybe the step by step guide was to simplified for an idiot like me to follow?
NB! Anyone have maps for Portugal and Southern Spain?
