Family folder is a Mapsource installation, put it In C:Garmin. In the folder you'll find a reg key to run to have it installed in Mapsource . Naturally you must have Mapsource software installed in your pc.
The "bunch" of img files are the maps segments of the map, but to work ,other files are needed and they'r in the Family folder.
You dont need to use GmapTool to install that map in Mapsource.
You can use GmapTool to install an image that comes from a gps unit and you dont have the original MS installation.
An original Mapsource installation let you choose which part of the map you want in your gps, and send it to your unit ,may be you dont have enough space for the whole map.
GmapTool MS installations dont give search feature in gps, original ones give it.

Great Tutorial, i i have managed to unlock the image file of Australia & New Zealand V3 and get gmaptool to install into Mapsource. In Mapsource i can view the map in the large right hand pane and it is in the drop down selection box on the top left, however the maps do not appear in the option box tothe left of the large viewing pane to select what maps i want to send to the GPS, it simply says 0 maps, 0 KB. I have a Dakota 20 with a 2gb sd card. i can get Mapsource to recognise the GPS and transfer tracks and waypoints. In Mapsource i can go to utilities and see the map in the managed map products tab. I've searched the forum and the tutorials but obivously i have missed a step somewhere.. Any Help is very much appreciated

No, it is all good, i tested on my laptop and worked fine, tested on the PC and after reinstalling maps, worsk fine. i didn't realize that you had to select the map in the window for itto appear in the list. Thanks for you help and the tutorials, worked a treat and pretty much 1st go.

This leads me to my next questions, the use of the SD in the GPS and; 1) how do you get the GPS to recognise the SD Card, 2) Then how do you get the GPS to recognise the maps on the Card and 3) is there a particular folder that should be created on the SD card for the Maps to go into?????

    Hi Catymag,

Sorry for this question and my bad english... I'm new to this and it isn't easy...

I followed your tutorial for installing a img map to mapsource.

At point 5, you tell us:

    5. Set Mapset FID to a value not used (use mapsettoolkit to check)
    MapSetToolKit v.1.50 Beta+v.1.62 Beta+v.1.75 beta+v.1.77
    set PID to 1.

    That's done.

Then, I push "split all" and the program starts working and "extracting" a lot of files (it's Trekmap Italy)

After sometimes, a black windows opens together with a smaler white one saying:

    Map Tk (Command line)

    -- OS: win32 mbcs Python: 2.5.4 Maptk 2.7.7 --

    Input: -1
Error [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '-1'

This stays open until I close it.

The "green window" of GMap Tool states "End"

I go to the folder where all the files of my map are extracted and launch INSTALL.

I get a new black window asking me to push "Enter" to install my map for mapsource.

I press "enter" and a get a new "white window" from Map Tk (command line)

    -- OS: win32 mbcs Python: 2.5.4 Maptk 2.7.7 --

Info 'C:/Program Files (X86)\MapTk/MapTk.dat' not found

    Input: mapset.mp

Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'mapset.mp"

When I close it, I get File missing, aborting install

Could You please help me solve that problem ?!?

Point 5 refers to a selfmade map or an OSM map: you can use Gmaptool to install them in Mapsource and you'd use a FID you dont have yet in the maps already installed in your Mapsource.
In your case you must add Trekmap Italy FID, you cant change it.
I'll explain better point five in my post

    compile it like this

    riEb3

ps: I always used free cGPSmapper
