Where do I find these files? In the directory where the split .img files are supposed to be?

That would appear to be the problem as it worked when I changed the directory. I tried to open with Mapsource and found out they are locked. I assume I can use Jetmouse as per #15 of this thread to unlock. Something new again to learn and try. Thanks for all your help on this. Hopefully I will eventually get to see a map...

I went to the download site for Jetmouse - "Mega.." and downloaded. Virus alert re: trojan horse. Quarantined the file. Any suggestion for safer site??

Thank you for your prompt and very helpful replies. I found the "Fast Img Unlocker 1.5" program on another thread and used that to unlock the GMAPSUPP.img file and then I used cgpsmapper to split the file (again) and now it loads on Mapsource.

Catymag, you have the patience of a true guru to take the time to help us senior citizen neophites with these problems. Let me this one time shout out my may THANKS!!

I thought I had all my ducks in a row but when I tried to load a mapset via Mapsource on my etrex Legend I got the message: "This device does not support maps from...". All works well on the PC. The GMAPSUPP.IMG file was unlocked with Fast IMG Unlocker, then split with cGPSMAPPER and installed as per directions. I used the patched Mapsource program to create a mapset of about 5M and tried to load it on the Legend (updated to latest software - 2008) after which I got the previously mentioned message. Is there something I missed??

I have the original Garmin basemap (2002) I believe unless it was updated when I downloaded the v3.9 update.
The message stated: "This device does not support maps from Lake of the Woods. Please deselect those maps or select a device that supports them and try again."
The "Lake of the Woods" maps were so named when split with cgpsmapper.

The properties of the basemap file show that it was dated December 2003.

I had added some waypoints and a track to the maps before making the mapset. When I deleted these items and tried to transfer only the maps the Mapsource program would not find the etrex device on com1. It only found the removeable memory and hard drive. I tried downloading data from the eTrex and there was no problem finding the device. Only happens if I try to upload a map. Where do I look now??

Maps have been splitted by GmapTool.
Simply your device doesnt support that map-
Check your unit maps compatibility here
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Your unit have 8MB in internal memory.
I meant which region basemap, probably you have Americas basemap-
