Have i missed what you're trying to do here? This is what you've done so far i think:
    1. Split [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] using GMAPTool
    2. Installed to your PC using the install.bat
    3. Now that you can see it in MapSource, you want to use MS 'to get it over' to your gps, i.e. send a map .img file to your Astro 320?

If that's what your purpose was in the first place [to get the image onto your Astro], all you needed to do was put the unlocked Topo img on a microSD and place it in your device:

    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
    From that page:
    Additional Mapping

Astro 320 has a microSD™ card slot so you can load TOPO U.S. 24K maps for land elevation contours or City Navigator NT® map data for turn-by-turn routing on roads. Astro 320 also supports BirdsEye Satellite Imagery (subscription required), that so you can download satellite images to your device and integrate them with your maps. Mapping depicts important nearby geographical features and lets you know if your dog has crossed a creek or is nearing a dangerous road.

Astro 320 is also compatible with Garmin Custom Maps, free software that transforms paper and electronic maps into downloadable maps for your device.
The Topo Premium range is compatible with your Astro without mucking around with the image:

    Hi

I've tried to use GMapTool to Split the map TrekMap Italia V3 Pro according to your instruction.
Splitting goes well and GMapTool reports "End."
If I then go to the directory where the split files are saved by GMapTools and start the Install.Bat file, I confirm by clicking ENTER in the MSDOS-prompt, but soon the following appears:

    Compiling preview map.
'cgpsmapper' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
    File missing: mapset.img, aborting install.
    Press any key to continue...

Does anyone have any idea what the reason for this problem is and how I can resolve this?

    Thanks!

You don't have cGPSMapper (free) installed or you haven't shown GmapTool where the program is installed

Default Map subset with GMaptool - Find places

I have a Garmin .img file created from a gmap file and working perfectly (I mean with the Find places capacity) in my Nuvi, in Mapsource and in Basecamp.

I would like to create a subset of my .img but I have no longer access to the .gmap file.

It is well known that if I use Mapsource, Mapinstall or Basecamp I will loose in the subset the Find places capacity.

Have I a solution using GMaptool split capacity with "subfile" option instead of the useless "create for Mapsource" ?

The GMaptool split "subfile" gives .MD2, .MDR, .GMP and .SRT.
    1. Isn't that all that is needed to create a fully operational subset (I mean with the Find places capacity I am interested with) ?
    2. if so, what is the next step ?

    TKS in advance.

No. Forget this, you cannot create an image with full search capabilities from a GmapTool compiled preview map. Either find the original gmap folder or PC install version or simply view the correctly compiled image file in BaseCamp.

Just so that someone else doesn't waste a day of their life, BlueChart G2 North America will not work. I had ZERO issues with Inland Lakes, but for some reason BlueChart has problems. It splits fine and imports, but when you go to pick maps you only get about 50 of them which adds up to a few MB. THe BlueChart image file is over 2 gb so there is no way you are getting everything. The preview is also different than when I did it with Inland Lakes. Inland Lakes made a bunch of blank boxes where I had to zoon in to see detail, where BlueChard G2 squished a few maps in a single line, part of one which was visible without zooming [unlike IL's] but when you try and zoom in anywhere else you get nothing. It also failed in MapTK [error complained map 999999999 was missing] and I had to use cgpsmapper, which is what I used for IL's anyway.

Again, if you bought BlueChart G2 and want it in mapsource, basecamp, or homeport, it's not going to work. These were the 2013.5 maps sold on an SD card. They work fine on the GPS but I wanted to merge them in mapsource as my 60csx doesn't allow for more than on img file.

I have a funny feeling Garmin did something to mess with the new map images, and because these tools have not been updated forever they won't work.

Edit: Yes, I read this: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

And, I have no problems getting it into mapsource, however it only adds a few maps and not the whole set, again as I mentioned above. I will never buy another map from these clowns again, and am sick of the nonsense with them discontinuing Mapsource. Basecamp and Homeport are terrible. Swapping SD cards because Garmin refuses to sell software versions of Bluechart is even worse. I don't understand the idiots at garmin.

Far be it from me to usually leap to Garmin's defense when someone heaps criticism on them, in fact I'll normally help in sinking the boot if it's in any way justified.

However, even though you're using a very good tool in GMapTool, it's well established that any reverse-engineered simple preview maps made that way will not be fully functional, and some more so than others. That's particularly true for BlueChart images installed into MS. A little like trying to shoehorn a size 15 foot into a size 3 ballet slipper unfortunately. There's a further limitation quoted [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] by Ballebar:
When you make a reverse engineering of a IMG-file to a MapSource installation it will be a very simple preview map. GMapTool starts cGPSmapper to build a default simple preview map. In many cases that preview map will have very strange outer borders and zoom levels.
The reason why Garmin no longer sells BlueCharts and many Topo maps in an installable PC Version is that they now have HomePort and BaseCamp which can view images directly on devices and cards. That's their choice, and it simply wasn't possible to upgrade MS to be able to cope with large modern maps so it was discontinued. More than a marketing decision, it's all about the capability of an older piece of software which although very popular and much-loved by users simply isn't up to the task now.

Unfortunately the GPSMAP60CSx/60Cx is also now unsupported and hasn't had a firmware update in over 5 years. At least since fw version 3.90 it's no longer stuck with the FAT16 2GiB file size limit I suppose, but maybe still has a maximum map tiles number of 2,025, and now like other units it still has an image file size limit of 4GiB [-1 byte]. I'm not sure which NA BC you're referring to, but they're all pretty large these days, the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in our index is 2,922,381,312 bytes, which is over 2.72 GiB.

It's no problem to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to get the maximum size gmapsupp.img, whether that be 2GiB for FAT16 or 4GiB for FAT32, but you won't nail many BlueCharts together before you're over the file size limit.
